Buffalo Film Seminars: Spring 2008 Screenings

Story Options

The Buffalo Film Seminars return to the Market Arcade Film and Arts Center, starting this Tuesday, January 15th, marking its 16th season.

Diane Christian and Bruce Jackson host the seminars, introducing the films and leading the after screening discussion with the UB students registered for the class, and anyone else taking in classic cinema on the big screen.

Havn't been to a seminar yet? With this season including classics by François Truffaut, Robert Altman, Ingmar Bergman and Billy Wilder, it is an excellent opportunity to take a trip downtown (there’s free parking via theatre refund, in the M&T lot adjacent to the theatre), and enjoy a night of classic Cinema.

If you get there after 6:30pm, the Goldenrod handout, containing essays and readings on each film in the seminar, will be available, and typically comes in handy during the discussion. Tickets are available for individual screenings for $8.50 regular, $6.00 62 & over, and $6.50 students. However, if you’re a true cinemaphile, the 15% discount on all films for seasons tickets, might work out better. Ask at the MAFAC box office for more details on the season tickets, or to download a copy of the goldenrod packet for a particular film, check out the official site at buffalofilmseminars.com. Check out the entire list of films below, most of which will be projected on crisp 35mm. We’ll see you there!!

I've been to this seminar, and it's fantastic. I am already especially looking forward to "Now, Voyager"; "Tootsie" and "The Piano." They're all films that appeal to non-athletic wussies, like me, who were secluded by their parents. (Isn't that right, Better Than Detroit?) I'll be there wearing a pink t-shirt and sipping a cappuccino if you still want a piece of me by then. That is, of course, if you're not out at the Chophouse with your date named Gina, who has big '80s hair and an acid-washed miniskirt...or pounding Genny's at the Essex St Pub with your frat brothers.
