Brunch in Buffalo
What is it exactly that makes Sunday brunch in the city so good? I know that there's a Bills game today, but if you're not heading out to a tailgate, what could be better than walking over to the closest neighborhood brunch destination for some good old fashioned cooking?
There's a chill in the air for the first time in a while. Really, I can't remember such a beautiful summer. Not to say that you can't enjoy brunch year 'round, but there's just something special about tossing on a light sweater and taking in a fall walk. And what could be better about a walk in the fall when you know that brunch is waiting at the end of that walk?
I know everyone has their favorite brunch spots in the city,...
... but what are some of our personal hot spots? Well, before I even get started, I want to say that I miss brunch at The Royal Pheasant. That said, I would also like to point out that I have not had the chance to get over to The Coda on a Sunday morning yet. So what's good? All right, Solid Grounds is a personal favorite. The omelettes are really great and their specials are very thoughtful. The brunch at the Left Bank is wedge. They serve up a mean french toast and you can eat while listening to a live performance of a brilliant classical trio. Coles is popular, and I think I know why... if you're looking for one of the best Bloody Mary's in the city, this place has it. The Garden Restaurant at The Albright-Knox is almost 'unfair'. It's hard to compete with a brunch that can be eaten while viewing such an incredible urban garden terrace. Then there is Off the Wall that always attracts a good crowd that goes crazy for their poached eggs pancetta. This joint also has a great view onto Elmwood where you can check out all the action on the street.
I know that the above eateries are just a few of the many great places for brunch in the city. These restaurants put a huge effort into making Sunday in the city an extra special day. When you're heading out this fall, grab yourself a brunch, it's a delicious way to start the week.

As always, we appreciate our users’ patience as we make this transition but we promise it will be well worth it. With faster load times, a comment view …
Caroline Kennedy was in town for a visit with our mayor yesterday. A possible choice to succeed US Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, Kennedy's name has been mentioned along with that of Attorney General Andrew Cuomo (son of former New York Governor Mario Cuomo) and our own Byron Brown, among others.
Certainly, Kennedy has "been around politics" all of her life, which is to say she was born into a family of politicos and lived in the White House--neither of which would necessarily f …
Free light rail rides on downtown's above ground section could be derailed thanks to the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority's budget mess. That is the news coming out of a Buffalo Place meeting this morning. Facing a budget shortfall and reduced State operating assistance, the NFTA is scrambling for new revenue sources and is contemplating charging for rides along the lengthy downtown pedestrian mall.
Well it is Christmas time in the city and the NFTA helped put people and especially children into the mood in a very festive and fun way. One of my favorite memories of childhood was taking the train downtown with my grandfather. I would gaze out the windows and watch the tunnel speed by. It always felt like we were going a million miles an hour.
Then there was the ability to stand up and walk around during the ride without the need to be strapped down. It was always a fun time …

That's what I love about Buffalo, it has tailgaiting sports fanatics and more elegant brunch diners on Sunday. Both are welcome and are part of what makes Buffalo unique.

I actually ate Brunch ate the Tralf on Sunday, it was fantastic. Nice food and Fantastic jazz music. It's a new thing that they're trying and there was only about 8 tables of people but nonetheless Barbara Levy Daniels Played an absolutely amazing show with her very talented band. A female vocalist with a great improvisational band, it was classic. She's playing again on the 23, it would be worth the trip.
