Play BR's Own Fantasy Foodball!

Those of you with a hankering for football are poised for the new season to begin, and we all know that includes the many of you that will take part in the great American tradition of fantasy football.
Here at YUM!, we've got a slightly different take on things. Join us as we play Fantasy Food ball. Let your voice be heard!
What’s missing from the Buffalo food scene?
What dishes would you love to see on a local menu?
Are you craving Ethiopian injera with doro wot?
Do you have a hankering for Mexican tamales?
Type in your suggestion for the dish that’s missing from our city--and be specific! We'll then pick the best nominations and hold a vote. The dishes that get the most votes will be featured here on the YUM! page, and may even appear at a restaurant near you.
Let the nominations begin!
**Nominations for BR's Fantasy Foodball close at midnight on Friday, August 31st. BR staff will sort though the nominations and present YUM! readers with the choices we feel best suit the city and the competition. Voting will begin the following week.

A corner joint needn't be a dive.
And Papa Jake's doesn't make its patrons choose between a laid-back bar atmosphere and delicious, fresh food. Scott Leary, the new owner of Papa Jake’s Saloon on Elmwood, knows how to provide casual comfort and a very satisfying dining experience.
“We don’t take shortcuts here at Papa Jake’s,” Leary says. He proves this with Papa Jake’s fresh and tasty menu. “I don’t want to call this a late night menu, because we have amaz …
With the opening of more and more coffee houses downtown, some people wonder if Buffalo is really a coffee town. Buffalo is the original coffee town!
The "coffee break" which is taken for granted as a standard part of any work day has only been around for about a hundred years. Coffee culture has continued to flourish in this country and the espresso boom of the Pacific Northwest in the 1990s has seen to it that every other gas station in America now has a barista on staff. Perha …
It's great to see stylish, hip, new restaurants pop up downtown such as Sea Bar on Ellicott Street, which specializes in contemporary Japanese food. A clean ultra-modern space, Sea Bar’s dining room is quaint and inviting. The sleek sushi bar has counter seating and the wet bar, with beer, sake, and wine, has at least 10 sakes to choose from on any given night. We were happy to try a Sojitio, a sake mojito, which had the right amount of mint without too much sweetness.

Ten years ago, the downtown of My Fair City was forever altered when a Big Dinosaur appeared on the scene. Thankfully—unlike 1950’s Tokyo—when this dino showed up our downtown wasn’t flattened, but considerably improved. Dinosaur Bar B Que, a restaurant that originated in downtown Syracuse in the 1980’s, planted its foot in downtown Rochester in 1998. It was an instant hit—it’s common to have a line waiting to get in at all times. And it’s clearly Hog Heaven— …

Come on, MRodgers! Tell us exactly what you want so that we can try to get a local restaurant to cook it up for us! The winning dish will hopefully be offered as a special by a local restaurant for one time only BR Night.

AuburnAve, I'm with you on the Ethiopian vote-- shrimp tibbs and injera, YUM. Can't say I agree re: the Rocky Mountain Oysters, though. :)
Sorry for the multiple postings but I guess I am a huge Fantasy Foodball fan!

I also vote for the Ethiopian. Curry-type meat with injeera. So good.

In my former life as a Seattleite, I enjoyed an African stew made with peanuts from a local restaurant. I have no idea which country it comes from, but it was delicious.

I'd really like a puerto rican restaurant that will STAY OPEN in Buffalo, near Elmwood.

Yes, I'm totally with you guys on the Puerto Rican restaurant thing. I saw the "For Rent" sign at El Flamboyan the other day and had a moment of silence for all the yet-to-be-consumed pernil. Oh well, at least I got a couple of tasty meals out of it.

Really GOOD terriyaki. Beef, chicken, all veg-your choice- (but I want all veg. with tofu). In Seattle ( and probably other west coast cities) there is a terriyaki stand on every corner- everyone cooked a little differently but each incredible!

Great, delicious cheese fondue at Bistro Europa, and I think that Shadow Lounge offers a few. Steel Crazy's more formal, "sit down" crepe place, which is still under construction, will also specialize in fondue. Mom had a great bleu cheese fondue with fresh raspberries at Torches last week.
