BR's Get Together

The winning Fantasy Foodball item was served up by Nektar with their own twist. Their take on banh mi was interesting, the main flavor came from the addition of Korean kimchi to what is a Vietnamese sandwich traditionally served as inexpensive "fast food" up and down America's coasts. Attendees with a passion for spicy cuisine were thrilled with the end result.
For those of you curious about banh mi, I have it on authority that Joe's Deli on Hertel and Colvin carries a sandwich called "The Body" (a sandwich crafted in honor of Ristorante Lombardo's Chef Salvati) that possesses all of the traditional components of banh mi.
Thank you again to Nektar and to all of those that joined us. Stay tuned to Buffalo Rising for information on upcoming BR events.

Mark Croce’s $2.15 million purchase of Bashar Issa’s City Tower site seemed out of the ordinary for a businessman better known for his string of Franklin Street restaurants and bars. Croce however, through partnerships or one of his corporations, has become one of downtown’s largest property owners. He has been buying parking lots and buildings for several years in the north end of downtown.
Following BRO reader submission by Richard Kegler:
Visitors from many countries spent the last week in Buffalo and had plenty to keep them occupied. The city embraced, entertained and at times baffled this group of visitors.
TypeCon kicked off with a sold out Pecha Kucha night at Hallwalls Cinema. Attendees were then invited to a spontaneous open house for WNYBAC with a special beer tasting provided by Flying Bison Brewery. Wednesday’s Stefan Sagmeister event at the Karpeles m …
You might recall Eli George's post titled, 'The Problem of Problem Delis'? If not, here's the background of the story. If you have been following this very troublesome West Village deli over the years, then you know that the neighbors have been crossing their fingers and holding their breath that someday the market would go on the market. Well, according to Community Activist, Marilyn Rodgers, that day has finally come. Her hope is that someone already has a plan of some sort for …
As the summer starts to dwindle down and the leaves start to change, you might hear some bummed out Buffalonians say, "There is nothing to do in Buffalo." Well, Esther Smothers, a hardworking, dedicated woman, has set out to rid the city of these remarks.
Esther has started her own television show called What's Happening Buffalo & Western New York premiering Sunday, August 3rd from 8 - 9 am on MYTV Buffalo. This show will target Buffalo, as well as the eight counties of Western …

Christa- I think you should have a food show. Show us different techiniques and then we can taste some new stuff. Like a party and a tasting. You were taking about Xantham gum and some far out stuff at the Nektar party that I've never heard of..... I think a bunch of people would be interested and it would be a chance for some of us to see stuff we may never get a chance to see again. Would you do us the honor?

Christa - Thanks. Trying Joe's. Would you do an article on that place?
I would name this picture - "Where's Newell?"

Hello BR Group,
You are all beautiful people, inside and out. Beautiful photo. I had a wonderful time with all of you at Nekter. Thank you all, for the great pleasure of your company and friendship, I always knew BR's intentions are pure. Thank you all for proving me correct. A special thank you to Newell for caring about Buffalo and our people. And a very special thank you to you Christa, for staying in Buffalo and loving it as much as we in Buffalo do. And of course, for loving all things food. You rock!
