Bronwen's Sweet Design and an Irish Candy Creation

Black & Tan Truffles: "In celebration of the traditional Irish stout served for St. Patrick's Day, our Black & Tan truffles are made with real Guinness. They're created as half dark and half milk chocolate with a swirl of light milk chocolate to mimic the appearance of the famous black & tan beverage. $29 per pound. $6 quartet box."
As I looked around I spotted an awesome looking candy bar that was made with habanero peppers. How could I pass that up? Bronwen designed the wrapper... and it's interesting that the design looks like it could have been an ad found in the original BR quarterly publication. Some of her designs are inspired by her kids... while others are just made to look super appealing. She filled me in on the Habanero Bar:
Limited Edition Habanero Bar "Inspired by our popular Valentine's Day Hot Raspberry Truffle Hearts, Choco-Logo chocolatier Dan Johnson has created a limited edition Habanero Bar. Dark chocolate combines with hot raspberry habanero jelly in this specialty bar. It's a sweet treat with a whisper of heat. Look for them displayed in an antique wooden cigar box. $3 for 2.25 oz bar."
I tried the Habanero Bar this morning with a cup of coffee... man is it good. I didn't even taste the pepper until a couple of seconds later. Very smooth. Oh, if you're visiting Choco-Logo today, don't forget: "Starting this Saturday (3/15) be on the look out for Choco-Logo's GIANT over 7 foot tall (6' 7" plus ears) Easter Bunny who'll be greeting people in front of our Broadway @ Elm shop."

Since 1994, people have gone on the self-guided “Secrets of Allentown” tour, discovering the rich history of the area and the beauty of the architecture here in Buffalo. That tour once again returns, and though they’re willing to tell you the main attraction, to find out the rest of the homes, you’ll have to take the tour yourself.
The tour is on Sunday, September 14th and kicks off at the Clement Mansion where the Red Cross is headquartered at 786 Delaware Avenue. There, …
Maybe you read about this one last December, or maybe you took the time and looked over this one in April, and perhaps you considered attending this event back in June. Whatever your reasoning for putting it off, there’s no time like the present for Forgotten Buffalo, unless of course it’s the past.
Forgotten Buffalo Tours take participants on a journey into the history of the area, always striving to produce a unique and entertaining outing. Their success has allowed them to …
Last evening was the first time that I have ever attended the event, Party for the Parks held at the Marcy Casino. The parks gala started up just as the Burchfield-Penney showing was winding down, and has happened more than a few times this summer, the non-stop rain kept everyone guessing. By guessing, I mean that every time the band members would even look at their instruments the rain would start to fall. It was a good thing that the upper terrace was covered and the Marcy Casin …
According to Miguel Santos, one of the founders of the Puerto Rican Day Parade of WNY, starting the parade six years ago was a way of “recognizing that Buffalo’s Latino population continues to grow and we decided that it would be a great way to recognize this segment of the population.” Inspired by the National Puerto Rican Day Parade in NYC, Santos, who is a local activist in the Latino community, got a call from Jose Rodriguez, and the rest is history.
Santos says, “We …

Many people do not know that "Black and Tans" is a despicable label to many Irish who fought for liberty from the British - because the Black and Tans were the protestant Irish hired as police guards. Their name came from the colors of their uniforms.
I guess it doesn't matter much in the US, as many people order "black and tans" to drink, being Guinness and a lighter beer, while protest Irish order "Half & Halfs", that being the same mixture.
Still in this time of peace in Ireland, it would be nice not to be reminded of the unrest. I doubt there will ever be candy or drinks named "Taliban".

Lofti35 I know exactly what you mean. Whenever anyone mentions something about a "redcoat" I think back to the Revolutionary War and cringe about those awful times.
