Who would have thought that Sunday's Saint Patrick's Day parade would have turned out to be as great as it did. I say that only because the initial early morning grey skies and snow flurries made the day look like it was going to remain cold and ominous. Then, a few hours before the celebration the sun broke through the skies and people took to the streets in all of their fashionable green attire. Recollections of the parade include the seas of people and the Shamrock hockey players dropping their sticks and stirring up the cheering crowd.
Now we're winding down this Saint Patrick's Day Monday... we just did that with a visit to Gene McCarthy's Irish Pub and Eddie Brady's Tavern hours ago. Not having a lick of Irish in me, I do enjoy the Saint Patrick's Day celebrations that we have in Buffalo. Next year I am determined to get over to the Old First Ward to witness the 'other' parade held on Saturday. I hear that it was another big success this year.

Why doesn't the owner of the brown stone where Manny's was located - tear down that ugly, rotted, awning already.
Such a beautifule building and block. Where is Tim Tielman?

You missed a great one on Saturday. A true neighborhood parade, pretty long, and the participants were partying just like the spectators! we watched on Hamburg, and the atmosphere was amazing. My wife actually got an autograph from Gerry Adams, but that's another story. Make sure you hit the Old Neighborhood parade next year for a good time.

Thats awesome that your wife got Gerry Adams autograph. He is a true inspiration and it was really good to see him on Saturday and to listen to him speak.

the parade was a lot of fun this year! seemed to go by much faster than other years... probably cause the weather was perfect!

I thought the Neighborhood parade was supposed to promote ethnic pride. I was shocked and disappointed that drinking on floats was permitted. It is such a shame that this parade continues to feed the stereotypical view of St. Patrick's celebrations.
