BR Classifieds

We figured since our online community is so large and vivacious why not provide another avenue to connect our readers.
Classifieds in many categories are free of charge including listings for pets, items for sale, and community listings.
For the very cheap rate of $1 per day, you can post real estate rentals, commercial and residential real estate for sale, and employment opportunities. Create an ad up to 300 characters and then upload up to 5 images depending on the category (no images for employment). Your personal contact information is never displayed online.
If you are in the market for an apartment, a house or a new job, be sure to continually check our classifieds section. You can click on thumbnail photos to view them full-sized, and users can confidentially communicate with sellers via our site.
What are you waiting for? Get to it.

As in Kansas City, Cordish Companies is lead developer for a new destination entertainment district in downtown St. Louis. And like big projects in Buffalo and elsewhere, this one has had a long gestation period. Plans for Ballpark Village were first announced in 2002 and site work for the project just started in early-August. Cordish, involved since 2005, is partnering with the St. Louis Cardinals on the multi-block, mixed-use development.
The International Institute of Buffalo has provided refugees and immigrants a way to overcome language and cultural barriers while celebrating their own cultures for 90 years. Established in 1918, they help thousands of people from all walks of life every year get settled into life in the United States by helping them learn English and to find jobs and homes.
Now, in collaboration with Just Buffalo, they are proud to present “Sankofa: an evening of African culture, past, presen …
For weeks now, anyone trying to walk down the west side of Main Street (near the corner of Allen) has been met with this disgraceful mess. Can you imagine that just one block away is the Medical Campus? And this is what you will find if you walk from Allen Street to the Granite Works project? You can't walk, you can't bike, you can barely look at this mess without wanting to shake someone awake at their City Hall desk. A day maybe, but weeks... really?
When I walked into Campieri …
Picture this scenario; you are a fly on a wall in a major company and you are watching the president read the cover letters of possible employees. The president sits at his desk, letter in hand, cup of coffee in the other, and begins reading as you look over his shoulder. You are no editor, but after the first three sentences you can't help but notice at least two grammatical errors. The president immediately puts the letter in the garbage and picks up the next one.

hmm $1 a day I don't think so, craigslist is free.

$1 a day is minimal, it supports the continuation, upkeep and maintenance of this website.

Cheaper than the Buffalo News classifieds but it will reach a much smaller audience. More expensive than Craigslist, also reaching a much smaller audience. I am pegging this as a $1 a day Kajiji and will wait until it expands before posting anything.

I think the best comparison is with Artvoice. With AV, an ad is like $35 for a week - more if you want to include a picture.
AV and BR seem to attract a similar amount of people so that's probably the best comp.

Craigslist is free, AND I can always find a second-hand downtown department store on it. Where's the AM&As in the BRO Classifieds?

Ah, but will they have "erotic services" like Craig's List...? That is kind of disgusting and a slimey part of the underbelly of Mr Newmark's site

Why $1 a day? just make it free and watch it take off and explode, The Snooze classifieds will peter out to nothing... Google Base is also free BRO

No reason for this to be $1 a day. Make it free, it's how the internet wants to be.

There is also a company behind these classifieds...everything in life can't be free. You're hitting more of a "target" audience with BRO than Craigslist (anyone ever get responses from traveling models from Nigeria for the apartment you want to rent on Craigslist???).
Suggestion: since BRO is a very city/artsy/architecty crowd, how about a "Request For Proposal" section.

"No reason for this to be $1 a day. Make it free, it's how the internet wants to be."
-This statement is correct however you are missing a key element. BRO offers its content in Magazine and Web form to you for free. Classifieds along with ads subsidize these price so you don't have to pay for information, unlike a newspaper for example.

There is an ton of advertising already on BRO, charging for classifieds seems excessive. Take a look the majority of the left side, inside and below each article.

Why try and duplicate what craigslist already does much more effectively? For free I might add...

Using alexa for web traffic. That's funny.

I know the people at BRO are busting their butts and looking for a way to get compensated for their work, and I hope this is it, but I'm skeptical. It's obvious with a move like this that the ads aren't bringing in enough revenue, which begs the question-why aren't there any google ads on the site? Request for proposals sounds like a good idea; maybe the site could charge for announcements or calendar items. But charging the casual local a buck a day for something they can get for free elsewhere begs a better marketing angle than it being a "very cheap rate".
