Bikram Yoga Finds A Home

Bikram Yoga Finds A Home

Story Options

It didn’t find Bikram Yoga long to find a new home after being displaced from Elmwood's Parish Commons. After an early morning fire tore through the upper part of the building, various health and medical related businesses discovered that they would need to search for alternate spaces in order to continue normal operations. Even though this is never an ideal situation to be in, Bikram has landed an ideal location within the Elmwood Village commercial district. For this particular yoga studio, things are certainly looking up – this cool looking house, that went through a number of alterations a couple years ago, will be a great home for Bikram.

In the end, the unfortunate situation turned out to have a silver lining for at least one of the displaced operations. Seeing more commercial entities occupying these residential-appearing houses can only improve the ‘walkability’ of the avenue. It would be nice to see more of these house owners looking to the change-of-use possibilities. In sections like the 700 block of Elmwood Avenue there are no more spaces available. But there are houses like the one neighboring Kibarashi Sushi that would be ideal for a commercial business. Last year we saw Buffalo Hemp Outfitters do a nice conversion up at 1005 Elmwood near Bidwell Parkway. And Fleet Feet made a coversion few years back. This trend of conversions seems to be a natural progression for thriving commercial districts… like Queen Street in Toronto for example. The more dense the commercial district becomes, the more amenities are offered, the more people come to support it, and the more people want to live in the surrounding neighborhoods.

It’s still a sad story that a business was displaced in the first place… and a tragic fire put a successful building (temporarily) out of operation. But if there is a good side to the story, then that must be Bikram finding another home close-by. And who knows… maybe they might find that this new location will offer the business increased exposure that they might not have had in their previous location.

Bikram Yoga is now located at 912 Elmwood Avenue… near Fleet Feet and the Lafayette Church. 716-882-4151

"Cool looking?" More like 2020's candidate for "What were they thinking?"

hmm.............I'm wondering how long it will take their pellet stove to burn this place down. The 110 degrees at which they keep their room should really dry the place out and make for good kindling !

Pellet stoves create a moist heat. Much more humid than the typical Buffalo forced hot air for sure. Plus, all those sweating bodies. Having those big wooden, acute (;))) windows rot out from moisture would be a bigger concern.

I'm stoked they found a new home so fast. I've really been wanting to heck out this type of yoga. There was a Bikram joint in NYC that cranked the heat and played 80's hardcore instead of the usual crickets and pan flutes.

that is one heck of an ugly building....one wouldthink that if its clients were to truly relax then they would be interested in such bold, jutting lines....and would have aimed for a more authentic restoration....

fill- you are so right on the money. Unless they make some changes in the furnace, this house will be added to the list of beautiful elmwood buildings to burn down because of stupidity

Those windows were put in a long time ago. Maybe close to 10 years? The current property owner did not install them.

Ugly house. Yech. But to the first poster, right on, my friend. And who holds a benefit for a for-profit business after its owner burned down the previous location through sheer negligence? I heard that the owner of Bikram Yoga was expressly told NOT to put a pellet stove in the Parish Commons studio. Hope he or she doesn't burn down the new place! But for the love of all that is holy, close the damn blinds when the scantily-clad yoga bimbos are prancing about! My oldest son, however, gets a real kick out of the "scenery." And stop parking your car on the damn sidewalk!!
