Big Buffalo Event Weekend

The Hellenic Festival is one of those festivities that you have to go to at least once. It's a place where you'll run into a lot of people you know from the neighborhood... it's also a fun place to take the kids. Don't forget to get your Greek on this weekend.
Art Alive is one of the more unusual events that you will ever attend. The young people that enter themselves into the contest go all out to recreate famous Albright-Knox paintings. The artists star in their own reality outdoor gallery setting. It's totally interactive and it's set up in one of the best settings in the city.
The Dyke March and the Pride Parade are both this weekend as well. People all over the city have been talking about these events that bring people together to celebrate gay pride. March along with either parade and party with the participants. Elmwood becomes a very colorful place this weekend. Be sure to join in on the fun.
Star Light, Drinks and Bites is taking place at the Science Museum. It's your chance to rub elbows with the stars... or at least gaze at them through high-powered telescopes. Believe it or not, the event takes place on the roof of The Science Museum... how many chances come along where you can party on a rooftop of this caliber? Bring a date, because an experience like this is meant to be shared.
UPDATE: This event has been postoned... please stay tuned for rescheduling info. The Taste of Diversity has come to be one of my favorite events of the year. This is an event that showcases all that is great about the Grant Street neighborhood. Make sure that you check out the opening of the Grant Street Gallery while you're there.
And then there's The (MASH) Bash. By the time that most people recover from this event, the weekend has already passed them by. Dress up as your favorite MASH character and break out the martini glasses. This is one event that keeps the momentum going throughout the evening. Get your dancing boots out and get ready to mix it up with Buffalo's finest.
Be sure to check out BRO's event calendar for even more fun-filled activities taking place this weekend, including A Toast to the City at Marcy Casino, the Great Lakes Expo as well as the start of the JoAnn Falletta International Guitar Concerto Competition. Or add your own event in the following thread.

It happens once every four years. The prizes are the gold, silver, and bronze medals and only one can be crowned the winner. You guessed it! It’s time for the Culinary Olympics. This time they’ll be held in Erfurt, Germany and Buffalo will be able to root for it’s own hometown: Delaware North is sending their own team of chef to the competition, put on by the IKA.

Pain at the gas pump could lead to a population shift back to the city. That is the conclusion of several recent studies showing declining distant suburb home values and rising middle-class populations in many cities. In Buffalo, many neighborhoods are seeing high demand, but there are few signs that gas prices are a significant factor at this point.
The rising cost of gas is a concern however. In a July survey by the Siena Research Institute, 79 percent of upstate New Yorker …
Downtown workers and residents will be happy to know that a doggie daycare in the Ellicott business district has officially opened. The Puppy Playpen has transformed adjoining abandoned storefronts into a lively center for our four-legged friends. Many of the dogs are being acclimated to urban living… a lifestyle that co-owner Rosanne Higgins (pictured with her Great Dane named Sally) told me comes quite naturally for most of them. “Seeing the dogs in this downtown setting is …

We got to have the best festival season in the country. I grew up in South Buffalo, we have a lawn fete every weekend. Caz carnival was a couple weekends ago...food, music. We got to hold the record for most carnivals in the summer. Allentown, next weekend, Queen City FC games, outdoor concerts, movies. If you can't find something to do nearly everyday in the summer around here.....something is wrong with you. Summer in Buffalo rocks.

That's part of the reason I moved here from Niagara on the Lake. Buffalo summers do indeed rock. As for the new beach at the Marina..better than looking at driftwood. Cheers
