I stopped in to Globe Market today to see what new type of cheese Lisa had on hand. It turns out that Dustin, Globe's retail manager was holding down the fort for Lisa, and he had the perfect selection on hand to show me. One of Globe's best sellers is the Clawson creamy white Stilton with mango and ginger. Wow! The suggestion sounded a bit out there, but this was coming highly recommended. So Dustin slices off about five samples for me to taste. It was just then that I realized that three customers, who had been perusing the other selections, were zeroing in on my samples...
After asking (very politely) if they could also taste-test the cheese, the slices were doled out and what was left was my curiosity as to how they liked the samples. Beverly (far left) had prefaced the tasting with the comment that she was really not a fan of cheese, so I should leave it up to Michelle and Evelyn as to the results. But it was Evelyn who suddenly exclaimed just how delicious the sample really was. The other two readily agreed and the three proceeded to order a pound for a party they were off to.
What is really interesting about this type of Stilton is that if you leave it out for half an hour the texture turns super creamy and you can spread it on toast. Therefore, this cheese has become very popular for breakfast. The sweet nature is devine and can act as a substitute for jam. All in all, this cheese really is dynamite. Even though my sample did not sit out for any extended period of time, the taste and the creamy texture were a complete delight. I had never really tasted anything like it. The English cheese is sold at $14.99 a pound and is worth every penny. There is another flavor available, which is white Stliton with apricot. We never tried this style but hear that it is also good.

Caroline Kennedy was in town for a visit with our mayor yesterday. A possible choice to succeed US Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, Kennedy's name has been mentioned along with that of Attorney General Andrew Cuomo (son of former New York Governor Mario Cuomo) and our own Byron Brown, among others.
Certainly, Kennedy has "been around politics" all of her life, which is to say she was born into a family of politicos and lived in the White House--neither of which would necessarily f …
Free light rail rides on downtown's above ground section could be derailed thanks to the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority's budget mess. That is the news coming out of a Buffalo Place meeting this morning. Facing a budget shortfall and reduced State operating assistance, the NFTA is scrambling for new revenue sources and is contemplating charging for rides along the lengthy downtown pedestrian mall.
Well it is Christmas time in the city and the NFTA helped put people and especially children into the mood in a very festive and fun way. One of my favorite memories of childhood was taking the train downtown with my grandfather. I would gaze out the windows and watch the tunnel speed by. It always felt like we were going a million miles an hour.
Then there was the ability to stand up and walk around during the ride without the need to be strapped down. It was always a fun time …
