Basketball For Buffalo?

NexxNow is a media company whose main goal, according to their website, is to bring US minor league basketball to a Chinese audience which boasts a 300+ million fan base. It didn’t get this idea out of thin air. On February 2, around 200 million Chinese viewers tuned into an NBA broadcast of a Houston Rockets vs. Milwaukee Bucks game – that’s twice the number of people who watched the Super Bowl this past Sunday.
NexxNow partnered with the Continental Basketball Association (CBA), a professional men’s basketball league, in the interest of delivering over 30 years worth of media content to a Chinese audience. NexxNow doesn’t just end its influence with the CBA.
It should come as no surprise then that NexxNow is beginning a new franchise with the newly formed Premiere Basketball League (PBL). The PBL just began playing in January of this year and already boasts ten teams, including one in nearby Rochester. Though it does not have a name yet, this addition to the league will bring another sports team to the Buffalo arena. The team’s venue is still being negotiated but they are scheduled to begin playing in January 2009.

On the final day of each weekend, championship games will be held at Dunn Tire Park. The baseball tournament, the first of its kind from New Era, will attract over 140 elite youth baseball teams, an estimated 3,500 play …

Buffalo Place arranged for live music on the new pier throughout the day with music from Wendell Rivera Latin Jazz Ensemble, Boys of Summer, Rod Nickson Project, Jac …

So after fireworks and celebrations on Friday and Saturday, some, if not many, Buffalonians will no doubt be hung over and tired. That’s okay. Wouldn't it be crazy if a half billion chinese fans went ga ga for Buffalo basketball? It would be totally inexplicable like the strange fascination Finlanders have for David Letterman. It would be mind-meltingly weird if more chinese citizens knew of Buffalo than their U.S.counterparts. They just need to get wealthier, so we can juice them.

Riddled with crippling arthritis, "Pu Pu Platter" retired ahead of his scheduled deathmatch with Shanghai's "Pudong Silver". But a mysterious caped figure calling himself "Triad" has emerged, ready to take on all comers. American pro wrestlers can get in on all the action by mailing me $50,000 c/o East Coast Tong, dba HSBC Banking Corporation, London W1E2...we'll do the rest.
