Artists & Models #20: Nocturminal

Artists & Models returns after a 3 year hiatus! The June 2nd event is being held at the Central Terminal from 9pm-2am. Hallwalls presents 27 artist installations/performances as well as live bands and DJs throughout the night! This return event’s theme is Nocturminal. To give you an idea of just what that means, here are some variations according to Hallwalls website:
“embracing things, entities, animals and situations that only occur at night; ” “housing those with undeniable conditions and ailments.” “only lasts for a limited duration” “the dark locus for ambiguous transportation to and from unknown realms.”
Besides amazing, if also bizarre local art and music, Ike’s Barbeque will be serving up their delicious 'fixins' and Flying Bison Brewing Company will be on hand with a brew made especially for this event: NocturminAle.
Come to support our local artists and musicians. Come to detach from reality. Come if you are just plain curious. Come to Nocturminal!

As we mentioned in our previous post, we’re in the process of changing the Buffalo Rising site. We’re almost there as we expect to launch the new site on Friday, December 19th.
In the meantime, posting will be light as we log new stories in the new publishing system which will only be viewable when we launch on Friday.
As always, we appreciate our users’ patience as we make this transition but we promise it will be well worth it. With faster load times, a comment view …
Caroline Kennedy was in town for a visit with our mayor yesterday. A possible choice to succeed US Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, Kennedy's name has been mentioned along with that of Attorney General Andrew Cuomo (son of former New York Governor Mario Cuomo) and our own Byron Brown, among others.
Certainly, Kennedy has "been around politics" all of her life, which is to say she was born into a family of politicos and lived in the White House--neither of which would necessarily f …
Free light rail rides on downtown's above ground section could be derailed thanks to the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority's budget mess. That is the news coming out of a Buffalo Place meeting this morning. Facing a budget shortfall and reduced State operating assistance, the NFTA is scrambling for new revenue sources and is contemplating charging for rides along the lengthy downtown pedestrian mall.
Well it is Christmas time in the city and the NFTA helped put people and especially children into the mood in a very festive and fun way. One of my favorite memories of childhood was taking the train downtown with my grandfather. I would gaze out the windows and watch the tunnel speed by. It always felt like we were going a million miles an hour.
Then there was the ability to stand up and walk around during the ride without the need to be strapped down. It was always a fun time …

What I would like to know is how involved are the models in this show? If there are models there I am there.

Artists & Models always has plenty to see (as well as hear, feel, and taste!), including lots of artists (all disciplines), art (all mediums), and models (all genders), but it’s never just for spectators: everyone who attends is part of the show, dressing up and people-watching are always a big part of the fun, so in those ways the people who attend are artists and models, too!

Emjay, I don't think they mean "models" the way you're thinking "models."

Is it me or is this view AMAZING. IIRC only one of the rail lines in from of the terminal is actually in use. An AMAZING thing would be to take down all of the buildings behind the CT and North of William and West of Bailey and turn this area into a "Mid Town" section of Buffalo. They could place 15 foot high berms on William and Bailey to block out those views. Inside of the berms they could build a planned development with the "Main Street" running parallel to the baggage building. Off this main street could be mid rise and mix use developments. An oasis in the east side if you will.
I think most of the land where the tracks is/was located is owned by the government. Burying the needed line and placing construction above would not costly based on the return. For the business located on William, I am sure tax incentives to relocate and compensation for the land would just about do it. It is not like there is a shortage of industrial space in the city.
A new isolated development like this would make the CT a lighting rod. On the SE side would be this enclosed development. On the NW side would be the SE corner of Broadway/Fillmore. This area would immediately go up in desirability.

No one in this city should be complaining about things to do this weekend: MASH BASH Friday night, Nocturminal Saturday night, and Gay Pride and Helenic festivals all weekend long.

SLEEPL8 - because you butchered the sentence that you wrote I can't quite tell...are you hating on the Gay Pride festivals??? And what year is this? I be more inclined to hate your stupidity than some person who is gay. Thanks for showing everyone what an idiot you are. Continue on H8ter

Perry...what I meant was..."you SAY that as though Gay Pride festivals are a good thing." Is that now a correct sentence according to English grammar? Now to answer your question, yes, I am hating on gay pride festivals. I think they are rediculous. I would also find a straight pride festival to be rediculous if such a thing existed. I dont see the point in celebrating your sexual orientation. And since the current year 2007 I am allowed to express my opinion. If you and your "buddies" are entitled to carry on about how gay you are then I am entitled to criticize it.

Also. Intelligence and pejudice aren't mutually exclusive. You can call me an idiot all you want I would bet that you are no more intelligent than I. Your are the class act who has resorted to name calling. If you want an english lesson...the correct spelling is HATER...in the english language, numbers don't get plugged into the middle of words professor.

Last time I went to an Artist and Models event it was at Tri-Main, before that building filled up with paying tenants (fifteen years ago, probably). I missed the sex show that year (which wasn't supposed to be real, but witnesses claimed it was). Oh, well. Hope they are still fun and ribald. CT is a perfect venue for this party.

Tony Billoni started ARTISTS & MODELS in 1984. After producing nine editions at various sites all over the city, Tony handed it over to Hallwalls as a major fundraiser in 1994, when we did it on the 4th floor of Tri-Main Center, entitled NAKED. That's the one you're talking about, actually 13 years ago! Two years later (1996) we did it at Tri-Main Center again—2nd floor this time—entitled CIRCUS NOIR. And the last time we did ARTISTS & MODELS before this year's edition at the Central Terminal was also at Tri-Main Center, back up on the 4th floor, in July 2003. We called that one XX, because it marked 20 years of ARTISTS & MODELS. But the 2007 edition at the Central Terminal, entitled NOCTURMINAL, is the 20th ARTISTS & MODELS AFFAIR in 24 years, because of the four years we didn't do it.
