Art for History's Sake
If you are at all interested in the history of Buffalo, then there is a work of art that you must go see. The incredibly detailed painting is an aerial perspective depicting Buffalo's waterfront and downtown areas as they were in 1880. This oil and canvas work is four feet high and spans ten feet across! The artist, Robert Averill, owner of Averill Gallery on Elmwood Ave., is also a signature member of the American Society of Marine Artists. Hundreds of reference photos and maps were used to ensure the accuracy of building placement and appearance.
The painting was commissioned by Earl Ketry, owner of the Pearl Street Grill and Brewery, and will be the centerpiece of that establishment's well-known collection of historical Buffalo photos and memorabilia. An invitational 'Grand Un-Veiling' of the painting (with Mayor Massiello at hand), is planned for the evening of Friday June 3rd. The event will be followed by a brunch as well as a historical lecture centered around that era in Buffalo. Congresswoman Louise Slaughter is expected to attend the un-veiling along with Congressman Brian Higgins.

Recycling Made Easy? Is it possible?
Can anyone tell me why the vast number of cafés and restaurants in the city do not recycle? I’m actually having a hard time coming up with more than a couple that do. I am constantly walking back to the cash registers with papers and plastics asking where the recycle bins are. And I’m repeatedly told that there is no recycling policy in place. The Kids Are Alright
One of the things that I really enjoy at the Thursday at the Square concert series is watching all of the young people congregate on Main Street. Last evening I found out that there is a new policy in place that forbids these kids from hanging out near Lafayette Square. Help Re-Tree Buffalo
After the 2006 October snowstorm, Re-Tree WNY was established with the goal to restore the 8400 trees that were destroyed in Buffalo during the October 2006 storm.
