Amungus Among Us ... Humongous!

Amungus Among Us ... Humongous!

Story Options

BRO met yesterday with Robbie Takac and Alex Kelly, to talk about Robbie’s new musical project, Amungus. Robbie remains well-loved in Buffalo for never forgetting his roots despite a 20-year career as a professional rock star. His label, ChameleonWest Records, has produced 13 albums in town over the past five years, his foundation is responsible for over seven youth programs, and Amungus is poised to release a debut album, complete with 13 videos on greenscreen backgrounds for VJs to layer in clubs across the world. In our first clip, Robbie describes the project in detail.

Alex Kelly, the main vocalist on the album, is a classic Buffalo story of success in reverse. She went from modeling on the runways of New York City to school in Buffalo – but it was here she was able to make her breakthrough into her music career with Takac at the helm. Here she talks about her experience, and she and Robbie talk about what makes the Buffalo music scene special.

I asked Robbie if he felt that the music he writes here is different than what he writes in LA or out on the road. We got back some very interesting thoughts on that and why people who’ve travelled both love and get frustrated by their hometown.

Robbie also talked about the history and demolition of Trackmaster, and the Goos’ investing into a million-dollar recording studio in its place. Really.

In our final clip, Alex and Robbie recreate the moment when she walked into the studio and sang a capella for the group, and Robbie tells us where to find more information.

Amazing, Roby still has the same voice he had when he was an intern/jock on WUWU. Speaking of records..........Roby, if you're reading this, do you remember the night with John's WUWU-mobile and the records?
