Kid Biz, Juneteenth, Brush Up Buffalo, Jog for the Jake, Queen City Football Club, Squeaky Outdoor Animation Festival, Sunset Sundays, River Fest, The Unexpected Sidewalk Sale, Cirque du Soleil, and Rediscover Amherst Street. Those are just a few of the events that took place this past weekend. This was the second year that I attended the Amherst Street festival, and even though this may not be the biggest event in town (the street stays open except for the parade), I have a feeling that this will become one of the best urban family festivals in coming years. Actually, the parade consisted mostly of children - soccer clubs, youth clubs, etc. And many of the local businesses continue to support the festival and the vibrancy that it brings with it.

Many of the black and white photos that are featured in the video were on display at the old Howie's Appliance shop. It was not hard to imagine Amherst Street as it once was - bustling with businesses and people. The festival and parade pay tribute to the history of the street while hi-lighting the Golden Days ahead. I talked to people who tried out Spar's for the first time, while others got a taste for Buffalo's Flying Bison Beer. CroZoo and the snakes were a big hit as were the Queen City Roller Girls (all-women roller derby league), and the Black Rock Intimidators (Official NASCAR Members Club).

Thanks to the Grant-Amherst Business Association for spearheading the festivities.

One of the things I really like about the video of the parade is that it shows off how diverse this neighborhood is. That's pretty cool.

Kudos to the Grant-Amherst Business group! Every year they make this little festival . It's a great family event that helps foster a feeling of connection to the people, the businesses and the neighborhood. An earlier post showed the group planting flowers along Amherst St. Keep in mind these are very small bussinesses (with the generous help of Wegmans) working on a shoestring budget to add to the life of Black Rock. And everyone seems to be having a great time!

Congradulations to the G/A Business Association. It looked like so much fun, I wish I was still in Buffalo.
