Age of Aquarius

This is a tough time of the year; short days, brutal cold, flat hair……..ugh!
It was around this time, many years ago, that a few friends and I decided we need something “fun” to do. Four of the six of us, sitting at the table that night, happened to be born under the sign of Aquarius!
Voila!!!!
A tradition was born… YES! It’s that time again…….
Buffalo’s 3rd Annual Aquarius Birthday Party!!!
A time for ALL you fabulous Aquarians to gather together & do what we do best; have a party! What started out with the winter doldrums of boredom has become an annual event!
Now some of you BRO readers not born between Jan 21st-Feb 19th may be thinking, “Wow! I wish I were an Aquarian so I could attend this fabulous event;” not to worry! We welcome ALL SIGNS as FOAs, Friends Of Aquarius! This year’s festivities will be held at 7 p.m. tonight at the very groovy Shadow Lounge (1504 Hertel Ave). Come join us for a night of fun & festivities.
As a bit of a sidebar; for longer than I care to acknowledge, I’ve begun my day with a few of my favorite online astrology sites. I’m happy to share them with the BRO readers. My “toolbar” includes:
NYPost: ALL “creatives” in New York begin their day this way!
Jonathan Cainer: solid, informative
WAPO: (The Washington Post!)
UB Graduate Eric Francis is the protégé’ of one of my all time favorite astrologers, the legendary Patrick Walker, who no longer dwells here but seems to channel through Eric.
The sites are endless. Some are just for “fun” but some are extremely accurate. There are sites that can compute a “natal” (birth) chart and an annual “progressive” (where your planets are now) chart. They vary in depth and price. Many will send you your charts in PDF format so you can print it out or just refer back to it.
Here’s a good place to get started if you happen to know your birth time, date & location
Michael Lutin’s site “Where’s The Moon?” is a little scary sometimes, but always interesting.Don’t miss his sobering Vanity Fair piece on Pluto in Capricorn here
Susan Miller is usually a bit more upbeat & also very interesting.
And if you’ve been “lookin’ for love in all the wrong places, this site may be right up your alley. Look under “astrology.”
So join us in celebrating the 3rd Annual Aquarius Birthday Party. And remember, Aquarians, we’re not getting older, we’re getting bitter…….er, I mean BETTER!
We look forward to seeing you all!

Though it may only be the fifth time since 1992 that the Albright-Knox Art Galley has increased its admission rate, the higher fee speaks to the changing face of our society and economy. To keep the gallery in good financial health, it is necessary to increase the price of a regular adult admission ticket from $10 up to $12. The new price will go into effect on January 1st 2009.
The director of the gallery, Louis Grachos, has said that due to higher costs in all areas of the gall …
French satire from the 1600's feels like falling asleep in high school english class. But classic French satire with a rock and roll band? That sounds better. We can thank Andy Liegl for this bold modernity on December 26th when his production of Such Foolish Affected Ladies opens at the Alt Theatre. The original play calls for violinists but this role has been liberally opened up to local band The Nepenthe. "I wanted an indie rock sound, something that my generation can click wit …
It’s funny how history seems to repeat itself. Florence Foster Jenkins was in the elite member of society, but terribly eccentric and utterly convinced that she was a great coloratura soprano – despite the fact that she couldn’t carry a tune for even a few notes. She even managed to hold a sold out concert, even though she couldn’t sing! Sound familiar? Remember William Hung?
Jenkins’ story happened over 50 years ago. She would hold annual recitals in the Ritz Carlton h …
What could be more perfect to spread the news about local artists at the Buffalo Indie Market than a literary magazine that features works from local artists? NOMAD is a new magazine set to debut in January 2009 that will feature writers, poets, photographers, artists, and designers from the area. Erica Eichelkraut, a freelance photographer, created NOMAD and is bringing it to the public. Since Eichelkraut is a part of the Buffalo Indie Market, it wasn’t long before a collaborat …

HEY! Couldn't figure out where else to post this SO please bare,(bear?) with me. SO> Its Friday night in San Francisco, rainy, cold,(relatively) and it has been a stressful week,( a job in mental health, rewarding, but sometimes REALLY hard.) SO, I visit a local haunt in the Castro district,( yes, THE gay neighborhood) AND, after a bit of LOUD classic rock,(yes, in a gay bar), I chat up a guy and his friend. GUESS WHAT? He's from Buffalo,(ney: Orchard Park) AND, I'm from Buffalo,(ney: the Town of Tonawanda). Can I tell you how much better my night got?! I've lived in California for 25 years and I still jones for Buffalo AND its surrounding neighborhood. I AM sorry but Boulevard Mall was THE orgin of "Valley Girls" and "MallRats" before either one of those movies came out. By the way, we drank, did shots, and bemoaned not being at our favorite gay/straight places in Buffalo. BUFFALO NEVER LEAVES YOUR BLOOD. Be a native , an ex-pat or a returnee,( WE love our friends and family. Buffalo lives in my heart. ( YES, I'm a little looped, but I know you'll understand.) MUCH LOVE TO ALL OF BUFFALO and surrounding 'burbs. P.S. I am a Sagitarius born on winter's soltice,(DEC., 21st) Very compatible with Aquarius. My new friend from Orchard Park? don't know....
