KB June and Platypus Rex Tomorrow at Buffalo Indie Market

Almost as much of a draw as the unique shopping experience, though, is the musical entertainment. The market on Sunday will feature the alternative acoustic stylings of KB June, who lists among her influences artists ranging from Tori Amos, Delerium and Kate Bush to Tool, The Postal Service and Skinny Puppy. The other performer shoppers will be able to enjoy is the fun, acoustic folk rock of Platypus Rex. Consisting solely of Jonathan Emerling and his guitar, Platypus Rex has a quirky, easy to listen to sound he says is reminiscent of artists like Green Day, The Who, and Ween. Anyone interested in supporting local artists of music and art will find a great representation of both at the Indie Market.
Admission is free, and the market will be open from 11 to 4. Come join the fun in what is one of Buffalo’s newest growing local communities.
Here are a couple of responses from a recent post written on the initial market opening. And don't forget that following the Indie Market is Sunset Sundays at Pearl Street. Should be a fun Sunday all around:
"Artists I spoke with were friendly and offered beautiful and original things-- and best of all, none of it was overpriced! I can't believe Mary Stephens not only had this idea, but also pulled everything together. We need more visionaries like Mary who reflect how truly great Buffalo is." - mefarrell
"my wife and friend had a table there, and yes, it was pretty unbelievable. We didn't think it was going to be anything like what people typically picture when they hear "craft show" and if anyone did, that notion was turned completely upside down. They had a great time as vendors (first time ever doing something like this), and we'd agree that Mary Stephens, who set the whole thing up, has definitely started something special. I loved the fact that it was at Pearl St and you could get something to eat and stroll around with a beer. It was still completely family friendly and there were kids of all ages there all day. Pretty cool." - scottishcow

This Friday and Saturday marks the fifth annual World on your Plate (WOYP). The event has just a few goals that it tries to spread: restoring the earth by promoting sustainability for all, advancing education and action on food issues, and to create a table where all are welcome. WOYP will try to further those goals this weekend as it brings a film, keynote speaker, and workshops to the area.
Starting on Friday, WOYP will be screening “King Corn.” The movie documents the trip …
A visitation of 150 decidedly non-ghostly spirits was recorded at the Buffalo Central Terminal Sunday, perhaps mysteriously drawn by the Terminal’s recent “Ghost Hunter” notoriety. Although it hasn’t served rail passengers in several decades, the Terminal is far from dead, as this tour revealed. And although the Terminal’s epitaph was written by the Buffalo News in the 1990’s, it was thankfully rescued from the grave by the fine folks of the Central Terminal Restora …
