A Fond Farewell To Lightmakers
It was with great sadness that I am relaying this store closing to you. Lightmakers on Elmwood Avenue will be closing its retail location at the end of July. Being a big fan of lighting, I am very sad to hear this. Being friends with the owners, Roy and Sionen, this was really upsetting. I have been frequenting Lightmakers ever since they opened on the avenue seven years ago. Roy an Sionen brought an upscale design standard to Buffalo through their beautiful lighting elements. Many of the city's trendy restaurants have been outfitted with lighting accessories from Lightmakers, and it is due to this type of commercial relationship that the two decided to sever their retail ties.
Buffalo Rising writer, Lucy Yau, explains: Lightmakers of NY has been at its current location for the past seven years but will close its doors the end of July. Roy and Sionen Laciura, the proprietors of Lightmakers are shifting more to a service oriented business rather than maintaining a retail presence.
The Laciuras will be concentrating on lighting design and consultation, working closely with architects, interior designers and commercial developers. They have always prided themselves for providing stylish design, and good quality at fair prices. Customers will still be able to purchase products through their website: www.light-makers.com. The Laciuras have always wanted to design and consult more, and will now be able to emphasize this aspect of their business. Lighting designs can be done on-line. Roy will still do lamp repairs n pick up and drop off service included.
Lightmakers wishes to thank the many loyal clients who over the years have become good friends. The last seven years have been a wonderful experience and they have enjoyed bringing happiness into the homes of their clients through their elegant products and designs. iItis been fun, weive enjoyed ourselves,i said Roy. iClients have been spectacular in supporting the business. Iive had many unique and positive experiences here in Allentown. Iive met many wonderful and charming people. This has been a happy place for us.i Sionen told me.

Though it may only be the fifth time since 1992 that the Albright-Knox Art Galley has increased its admission rate, the higher fee speaks to the changing face of our society and economy. To keep the gallery in good financial health, it is necessary to increase the price of a regular adult admission ticket from $10 up to $12. The new price will go into effect on January 1st 2009.
The director of the gallery, Louis Grachos, has said that due to higher costs in all areas of the gall …
French satire from the 1600's feels like falling asleep in high school english class. But classic French satire with a rock and roll band? That sounds better. We can thank Andy Liegl for this bold modernity on December 26th when his production of Such Foolish Affected Ladies opens at the Alt Theatre. The original play calls for violinists but this role has been liberally opened up to local band The Nepenthe. "I wanted an indie rock sound, something that my generation can click wit …
It’s funny how history seems to repeat itself. Florence Foster Jenkins was in the elite member of society, but terribly eccentric and utterly convinced that she was a great coloratura soprano – despite the fact that she couldn’t carry a tune for even a few notes. She even managed to hold a sold out concert, even though she couldn’t sing! Sound familiar? Remember William Hung?
Jenkins’ story happened over 50 years ago. She would hold annual recitals in the Ritz Carlton h …
What could be more perfect to spread the news about local artists at the Buffalo Indie Market than a literary magazine that features works from local artists? NOMAD is a new magazine set to debut in January 2009 that will feature writers, poets, photographers, artists, and designers from the area. Erica Eichelkraut, a freelance photographer, created NOMAD and is bringing it to the public. Since Eichelkraut is a part of the Buffalo Indie Market, it wasn’t long before a collaborat …

Are they staying where they are and just closed to walk in customers or are they moving someplace else?

From what I understand this is the type of work that can be done from home... I am sure that they will vacate the storefront. What really stinks is that from time to time they had considered moving into areas with higher foot traffic. I just wish they could stay open for retail.
