99

99 serves authentic Vietnamese, Japanese, and Chinese fare. On my most recent visit I couldnât resist the Cá»m ChiĂȘn DÆ°ÆĄng ChĂąu (pork sausage fried rice). The pork sausage, commonly referred to as Cantonese-style Chinese sausage, is fatty and glutinous, making it a savory indulgence. Carrots, peas, egg, and diced chicken all happily accompanied the sausage in the fried rice to create a tasty, well-rounded dish.
Oops! I forgot about the appetizer. Iâve gotten carried away; Chinese sausage does that to me. Before my provocative entrĂ©e, my dining companion and I split a Combination Fresh Spring Roll, a translucent rice paper wrapper enveloping shrimp, thinly sliced cooked pork, rice noodles, lettuce, parsley, and mung bean sprouts. Unlike some herb-heavy spring rolls, this was more neutral in taste; not at all a turn-off given the rich peanut sauce it is served with.

My foodie comrade, tempted to try something different on the menu, ultimately gave in to the Phá» Äáș·c Biá»t (noodle soup variety/combo) per usual. And rightfully so, as there are few establishments in our city who so perfectly prepare phá». The variety/combo phá» is the all-inclusive phá». It contains both raw and cooked beef, tendons, meatballs, tripe, and other cuts of beef along with the usual phá» ingredients rice noodles, parsley, and scallions.
Of course, the traditional side of sprouts, basil, lime, jalapeños, and sauces (hoisin and sriracha) accompanied the large bowl deemed a âsmall servingâ on the menu. We both enjoyed hot Vietnamese coffee. The robust coffee is mellowed with sweetened condensed milk culminating in a rich delight.

Donât be fooled by the casual atmosphere, 99 serves high quality, fresh food. All of the above delectable food came out, in order, within 15 minutes and our total was just under $18. You really canât beat that. Get to 99 for delicious authentic Asian cuisine.

Before returning to Buffalo, I often wondered what new additions I had missed in our cityâs restaurant and bar scene. So highly recommended by many of my closest friends, Jimmyâs on Elmwood, the old Buffalo Barbeque and Brew, was on the top of my to-do bar bite restaurant list.
It has recently been taken over by Jimmy Hambridge, who has been involved with the establishment since itâs opening as the Brew in October of 2006, actually a day before that horrible storm. The Ji …
It should come as no surprise to YUM readers, that I have a passion for spices. You can expect to find me foraging through the cityâs ethnic markets, hunting for treasures with which to restock my spice cabinet. The more exotic the spices, the more excited I am to try them. And excited is exactly the way I felt when I first discovered zatar.
Not to be confused with Zaâatar (which is a sort of hybrid of thyme-marjoram-oregano), zatar is a traditional Middle Eastern aromatic …
If youâre craving something sweet, youâve picked the right time to do it. Starting on Monday, June 23rd, Choco-Logo Confectionery Design will be kicking off its annual summer sale. Choco-Logo, whose name is modeled after âCoca Cola,â was, up until recently, the only chocolate factory shop in downtown Buffalo that had captured the attention of people from all over Western New York.
Specializing in corporate gifts, custom logo chocolates and private label products, Choco- …
Italian restaurants are much loved here in Western New York. People from all walks of life and ethnic backgrounds cherish the hearty, homestyle flavors of this Mediterranean cuisine. However, for the large group of immigrant and first-generation Italians here in Buffalo, several of the local Italian restaurants miss the mark.
With a mother from Calabria (southern Italy) and some training in the culinary arts, I fall into this category of disenchanted Italians yearning for tru …

I agree, the pho at 99 Fast Food is the best I've had in Buffalo. Thanks for profiling this restaurant; I hope they get lots of business because the food is really good.

Yes! The absolutely need to open a location downtown and deliver! They used to deliver when they were open downtown. Before the city illegally pushed them out of their location. I heard that the owner of Pho 99 had a location downtown, on Niagara Street, that he was looking to re-open, but that somehow never happened. Which is sad, because I used to eat there 3 - 4 times a week and now its too far for me to get out to. I hope more people do visit their Bailey location. My favorite was always #35 - BBQ pork, but all of their dishes are good. -cheers

Any of the pork dishes here are outstanding. There's really so much good food to write about at 99, it's worthy of three or four articles. If you have never been, don't let the fact that pho might not be your thing keep you from coming; everything is great and there are lots and lots of options.

Great pho. Here is another person who misses the downtown location. Hope they are still interested in finding a place.

Pho 99 has been on Bailey Avenue since before the Niagara St location closed and enjoys a steady flow of customers all day long, which the downtown location never seemed to have (although I much preferred this location). The same owners recently opened a Pho 99 Fast Food in Rochester, which makes me think they are less likely to open anything else closer to downtown Buffalo any time soon...
