29th Annual Hellenic Festival

This weekend, June 2nd n 4th, is the Hellenic Festival. The festival is a Buffalo tradition that is in its 29th year and takes place on the corner of West Utica and Delaware Avenue. It is renowned as a fun weekend full of dancing, eating, and experiencing the rich Greek culture. On hand at the festival will be delicious dishes such as souvlaki, gyros, lamb on a spit, flaming cheese, loukoumades (fried dough balls), baklava, and many other Greek delicacies.
New to the festival this year is the plate breaking attraction. For $1, you can break a plate and all proceeds benefit Women and Childrenis Hospital. As always, there will be live music and traditional Greek dancers in the tent outside. You can also take a crack at the dancing and try it yourself! There are also shops that sell food, clothing, jewelry and countless other artifacts. This festival is really something to be experienced and is for the whole family. Donit miss out!
The hours are: Friday, June 2nd n Noon to Midnight Saturday, June 3rd n 11am to Midnight Sunday, June 4th n Noon to 9pm
Admission is $2 for the general pubic, $1 for students and senior citizens, and free to children under 12. There is a shuttle service available for parking at Canisius High School.

Because after walking through the entire complex, I found myself wishing that I had gone to the membership gala the night before. This past July, the East Delavan Branch of the Buffalo and Erie County Public Library was given a grant of more than $133,000 from the Josephine Goodyear Foundation to help improve literacy rates in the area as part of the Read to Succeed Buffalo Literacy Coalition campaign.

OPA! This year was my first time at the Hellenic festival, but I had a GREAT time. The food was really good, and the music, dancing and drinks were great.
