2005 Great Lakes Water Sport Expo
This weekend, grab the kids and head down to the lake for the Great Lakes Water Sport Expo. This iopeni conference attracts an audience of waterfront-minded Western New Yorkers, and various leaders from government, business, and community agencies. It also attract those that are... well... attracted to the water. There are going to be a lot of cool events this coming weekend, but one of the most exciting will be the "Poker Run". What is a Poker Run? A typical Poker Run is an organized boating event featuring some of the area' s fastest boats. Each participating boat navigates a carefully charted course, stopping at five checkpoints along the route to pick up a single playing card. The winner normally takes the spoils. This weekend, the spoils are being donated to M.S.
The Buffalo Harbor Sailing Club has also posted additional info on a regatta taking place in conjunction with the Expo: The 10th Annual Western New York Regatta for Multiple Sclerosis will take place this Saturday in conjunction with the Water Sport Expo at The Pier Festival Grounds. The Regatta is a fun, competitive five-mile race in the Buffalo harbor. The committe hopes to raise more than $20,000 to fund national research and provide local programs for those individuals with multiple sclerosis in the Chapter area.
Here are a few of the other event that you can look forward to:
- 10th Annual Sailboat Regatta for Multiple Sclerosis
- Adaptive Sailing Demonstrations
- Adaptive SCUBA Demonstrations
- Jr. Bass Masters Casting Contest
- iLearn to Saili Oe An introduction to sail boating, with proceeds going to M.S.
- iPoker Runi for boaters and landlubbers, with proceeds going to M.S.
- Kidz Area with games, activities, arts/crafts, and a spectacular iWater Worldi
- Continuous music, a variety of entertainment, & displays/booths/vendors
- 6:00pm dinner (cost $10) supporting M.S.
Thanks to Expo sponsor The Multiple Sclerosis Society and also to Revitalize Buffalo for rounding up some volunteers for the event! The Expo takes place at The Pier Festival Grounds and Buffalo's Inner Harbor.

The Buffalo based company was founded in 2002 by a group of Western New York college students looking for a better alternative to on-campus bookstores.
Staying true to their slogan “A Refreshing Text Book Experience,” Bucks4Books made it their mission …
Earlier today we took our first walk through the brand new Burchfield-Penney Art Center. By the end of the visit I must say that I was a bit disappointed. Why? Because after walking through the entire complex, I found myself wishing that I had gone to the membership gala the night before. That was when thousands of members/supporters came together to revel in the glory that is The Burchfield-Penney Art Center.
The art center experience certainly lives up to all the hype that has …
This past July, the East Delavan Branch of the Buffalo and Erie County Public Library was given a grant of more than $133,000 from the Josephine Goodyear Foundation to help improve literacy rates in the area as part of the Read to Succeed Buffalo Literacy Coalition campaign.

Almost nothing incites a turf war on Buffalo Rising like The City vs. The Burbs talk (unless, of course, the topic happens to be Classic Art vs. Modern, or Casino vs. No Casino, or anything to do with the Peace Bridge and trolls).
Therefore, we enjoyed this little parody from the Onion that pokes fun at the 'burbs, but at the same time takes a look at what might be a haughty attitude held by city dwellers in respect to the suburbs.
This piece pushes stereotype to the max in a to …
