County Dollars Locked Up

County Legislator Kathy Konst
wants to see county dollars freed from housing parole violators awaiting transfer to state facilities.  Therefore, she is sponsoring a resolution that would take fiscal responsibility away from the county and put it in the hands of the state, where she says it belongs.

Ben & Jerry’s, Move Over
Imagine this: Two neighbors, one a creative art teacher, the other a science teacher with an understanding of formulas.  Each owns an ice cream maker.  Suddenly they find themselves trying to outdo each other with their own unique concoctions, and a whole neighborhood enjoys the spoils of war in the form of some of the best ice cream flavors many of them have ever tasted.  And then the idea strikes to combine forces and start mass-producing and marketing their frozen treats.
According to Jason Wulf, the art teacher (and poster and label designer) half of Lake

Polar Bears and Pirates and Vikings, Oh My!
Our favorite, fun-loving photographer, Glenn E. Murray Esq., happened to be in Olcott, New York, yesterday to archive the annual Polar Bear Swim for those of us not inclined to partake of icy water on a March day, no matter how blue the skies happen to be.
The annual swim, held by the Olcott Lions Club is a fundraiser, and these happy participants gave so much more than money.  Rumor is once you've been,

This is a Time of Mourning
Memorial services will be held this weekend at various locations for those lost in last week's crash of Continental Flight 3407.
With media attention comes the unfortunate phenomenon of those who would call attention away from the matter at hand, to their own agenda - no matter how lowly.
Rumors circulated yesterday that notorious hater, Fred Phelps, will be in town to picket, and the counter to this is a local effort is to dress people as angels and send them to the memorial sight as a "human" shield.   People are being asked via an email campaign

Petition for the Wielinskis: Build Them a House, Please
We've put petitions online before, but none seems as worthy as this one. Wouldn't you love to see Karen and Jill Wielinski, whose Clarence home was decimated by last week's plane crash, get a new home?
The days will be dark ahead, but the outpouring of public concern for the widow of Douglas Wielinski and her daughter has been overwhelming. On a national level, there may be help.  This petition has come through from a few BR readers, and if there's any chance that we can help put these two women in a new house, we want to see it happen.
