- Hi everyone. I previously had the username xmissanthropex but I lost my password, so here I am under a new, yet similar name. . I’m preparing to become a teacher and hope to someday teach in the city. I recently moved to the East side and it’s been one of the most dramatic events of my life. I’m hoping this experience will help me become a better teacher. I need to understand the type of environment these kids wake up in every morning. And you really don’t understand it unless you live it. It is like a war zone out here and that’s what makes me want to stay. It’s a desperate situation and I have a vested interest in seeing it improve. So many people are concerned and sympathetic over the plight of people half way across the world but they won’t turn with mercy toward their own backyards, were they might actually be able to do some good. I recently became a owner occupant on the east side. After garbage and sewer rental fees (user fees), county taxes, property tax and water are all added up I pay an average of $126 a month to live here. All the money I'm saving in rent is being used to get this house off the grid. I hope it will become a model for cheap sustainable living. I highly recommend anyone who is interested in sociology, urban planning, teaching or criminal justice come live here. The prices are so low the only excuse not to is elitism. The four years I've been here have been quite a learning experience. We've been able to effect social controls in the spirit of The Broken Window Theory. The impact on this street is untold. Security cameras, gardens, and frequent calls to the police, the Mayor's resolution line, and channel 4 have stood to modify behavior on my one block long street. The biggest problem I've run into is apathy on the part of the police who do not reside in the city. I've been told over and over again to move out. It's as if they want all the "innocents" to move away so they treat the area like a big sprawling prison (less paperwork that way) and who cares about social justice for the poor anyway? http://www.myspace.com/xmissanthropex Feel free to send me a message if you would like to know more about me.

Got A Tip? You Make the Call.
Very happy to hear about the infusion of new police officers but I hope the tip line isn't staffed by the same audacious people who answer the 911 line. I actually had to ask the operator on the other line if I had called an emergency number or som…

Save the zebra muscles! J.K. We've got to stop flushing our feces into the water supply and using potable water to do it. We should lobby for Composting Toilets in all State schools and Federal buildings.
