Buffalo’s Soundlab: Cut From a Different Cloth

When compared to other venues in downtown Buffalo, or anywhere in the city for that matter, Soundlab is clearly cut from a different cloth.  It's evident the second you walk down the stairs and into the basement space. The low, stylized lighting and brick walls give the club an upscale, streamlined-yet-simple vibe, demonstrating right away just how different this club aims to be.

This Week In Memorable Local Commercials: Brian Campbell
Local advertising is...unique.  With smaller budgets, local advertisers have to try to do more with less.  And the particular geographic location doesn't matter - local commercials are always...unique.

To celebrate our own local advertising adventures, we're introducing a periodic series focused on local ads.  Sure, some might quibble with the production quality of these local efforts, but at least they're memorable.  If you hum the tune to any local jingle in public, anyone within earshot will chime in.  It's kind of like when "Sweet Caroline" comes on in a bar.

High Places Tonight at Soundlab

By Dan Creahan

Formed in Brooklyn 3 years ago, High Places, the duo of Mary Pearson and Robert Barber display a penchant for off-kilter sounds, samples and skittering beats.

Reveling in a casual ease that fits well with Pearson's understated voice, High Places's self-titled full-length was one of my favorite albums from last year, and I can

Carrianne Hendrickson, and the Spirit of Art in Buffalo

During an interview with Buffalo Rising, Carrianne Hendrickson described herself as "a young woman, living in an economically strapped area, hustling as much inventory as I can."

But there is much more to Hendrickson, just like there is much more to Buffalo. There is hope there, there is passion, and there is the fascination with the idea of never giving up - she never gives up on herself, and she never gives up on anyone else.

Hendrickson smiled when she recounted how she got her start in the art world. "I used to doodle - a lot - in 4th grade... I'd

Full Moon Tonight-Buffalo Residents Warned To Stay Indoors
Buffalo residents are encouraged to stay indoors as the second full moon of the year is scheduled to occur at approximately 09:49 EST.  The first full moon fell on January 11th, at 03:28 EST, resulting in the maulings of countless Buffalo residents, most of whom were ill-informed of the all-too-real werewolf threat ever present in our city.

"It was kind of dark, and I was just walking Dale," claims 32-year-old Henry Kowalski of Hamburg.  "Then this hairy dude came running up out of nowhere and started growling at us.  It was weird, to say the least," he continued.  "To be honest, it
