A couple days ago, Roswell’s Kaminski Park was host to the 1st Annual Wellness Block Party. Presented by the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus, this event was fun and informative. The park itself was utterly stunning, and the marvelous weather made it a very enjoyable way to spend the lunch hour. Tables festooned the park walkway, where vendors presented a wide variety of services and products designed to improve your well-being. Participants included Melaleuca’s Wellness Products, the Western Division Federal Credit Union, Tops Cooking School, and the Erie County Department of Senior Services, to name a few.

The Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus is focused on improving the health and well-being of its employees and the surrounding community. The group, along with leaders from Allentown and the Fruit Belt neighborhoods, has made great strides toward achieving their long term goal. Called the Healthy Community Initiative, their objective is the completion of a multi-stage program that strives to “create, enhance and promote environments that make it safe and convenient for BNMC institution employees and neighborhood residents to be more physically active”.

In September, they brought us a terrific event called “America on the Move Day”, which was followed by May’s “National Employee Health and Fitness Day”. Stay tuned for more great gatherings sponsored by this organization. They continue to improve the well-being of our city as they work to improve the health of its individual citizens.

I will be listening to the Grateful Dead Hour hosted by David Ganz, this Sunday at 12:00 a.m. on 97 Rock (WGRF). I love experimental/psychedelic rock and roll music, which is why I enjoy the music of the Grateful Dead and other bands of that genre like Phish and the Oak Ridge Boys.

My S.O. recently became gainfully employed in this section of town and we have enjoyed the wellness fair and a few lunch breaks in the park as well. BEAUTIFUL NON SMOKING grounds. Who could ask for anything more? :)

Waldemar Kaminski is remembered in a recent piece by Debbie Schlussel - An Unsung American that is way worth reading. A few links to some pics I took of his shop on Broadway and some of Buffalo News reporter Donn Esmonde's writing...
