THANK YOU SABRES!!!!!!!!

I know this is a tough day for the city of Buffalo as the hardest working team in hockey came up just short of advancing to the Stanley Cup. I have never been so proud to be a fan of a team in my entire life!! Just thinking about how badly I wanted this city and this team to stake claim to their first championship brings tears to my eyes. The Sabres played their hearts out and showed what being a team truly represents.

After going to four playoff games (all of which were victories) and witnessing the jubilation that the entire city grabbed a hold of, it just makes you want to shake the hands of every player and member of the Sabres organization. A special thank you goes out to Tom Golisano who ultimately kept and ignited the fever that took over this city with a vengeance. This group of guys represents EVERYTHING that makes the city of Buffalo so great and I can not express how privileged I feel to be a part of it.

Think back to some of the great moments that you witnessed throughout the playoff run. You saw some incredible hits, goals, passion and determination in the history of Buffalo sports. All of the gut wrenching feelings that I thought I would have this morning have been replaced by the anticipation of these guys coming back next year as a group and completing some unfinished business. JP Dumont said that after the game last night, the players got together and agreed that they wanted to come back as a unit. He mentioned that it is a very tight knit group which does not come along that often. Tell me that does not put a little spring in your step.

Rick Jeanerette told the Sabres that it was his most memorable season in his 34 years of covering the team and that meant a lot to many of the guys. Keep your heads up Buffalo fans; you have not seen the last of this special group. One fan said it best this morning when he stated that "These guys did not break my heart, they stole it." I could not agree more.

Just think, won't it be a lot more fitting when the whole team can hoist the Cup next year as they wear the blue and gold ?

Tatonka-
Thanks for lifting up our spirits. Yes, Buffalo should be proud of our team and our fans. This morning my husband pointed out that something this season accomplished (for him at least) was it got his wife and sons hooked on hockey. Go Sabres! - buffalite

this team took us all on a ride, and even though it didn't end the way we wanted it, we should be proud at how far we made it. with having so many of our startrers out, we played amazing!

I am currently overseas working with our military in Iraq...and this team took my breath away everytime I looked at the Buffalo News articles and scores. I have never felt so much of my home over here as I did this season...I was lucky to be home on leave for one Ottowa game...and just to see the guys carrying our city on their shoulders was truly touching. They are the epitome of who we are as a city and a people...Thank you for being our ambassadors.

Buffalo stands as the better team...period. Carolina nearly lost the series playing against an AHL defense--as the Sabres were crippled with injuries to their starting defense. The series should not have gone past 5 games. Carolina won by default...and their performance was sub-par. Put those 5 Sabre starters in the line-up and we'd have the ending the team and the city deserves...until next year.

I'm not a dedicated fan but appreciated what this team has contributed to the pride in our city. So forgive the ignorance but how many accidental goals did the other team get in the series and if you subtracted all accidental goals I believe we would have won, not to mention what appeared to be bias officiating.

There's a good audio montage on wgr550.com of all the playoff highlights. It's worth listening to as fans try to fill the huge void left after the best 100 hockey games this town has had the pleasure of witnessing.

As disappointed as we all are from last night's game, we definitely should be celebrating the absolutely incredible season we had instead of crying over the fact that it is now over. I've been a Sabres fan since I was a little girl, but never as much as I became this year. I actually teared up at Carolina's fourth goal. And not just because we weren't going on to the Cup... but because of the spirit and heart that this team has infused our city with. Despite the loss I was undeniably proud of our guys out there. Maybe the Cup wasn't for us this year, but we showed the whole country what we're made of-- and I think it is clear that that is something to be envied. I can't wait until next year! Yay Sabres!

The Sabres had an excellent run and should be commended for that. The Buffalo area really came together due to the Sabres with local pride at its highest point in a long time.

Anyways, I hope Edmonton kicks Carolina's ass!

When doing yard work or other outdoor activities over the last few weeks when the games were on, my wife and I could always tell when the team had scored by the cheers that rose from neighbors houses and nearby bars, and the honking of car horns. Last night just after Thursday at the Square when they scored once, and then again, the news rippled through the crowds with cheers, high-fives, and sound of horns and sirens.

I lived in New York City through a couple of the Yankee's Championship seasons and the Ranger's Stanley Cup in '94 and while there was electricity in the air it was nowhere near as pervasive and heartfelt as the mood in Buffalo of the last three weeks.

From Galisano to Ruff to Miller to Briere and all the rest the people associated with the Sabres come across as genuine and sincere.

I can't wait until next year.

It has been a privilege to watch the magic on this team during the entire season! We are so lucky to have such a talented group of players that really considered themselves a family.

After the game was over last night, we walked out of Colter Bay to cheers of "thank you sabres"...a very fitting ending...

Blue and Gold! Blue and Gold! Blue and Gold! Blue and Gold! Blue and Gold! Blue and Gold!

BH June 2, 2006 04:26 PM

Has there been some sort of announcement from the Sabres that they are going tback o the blue and gold next year?

Tatonka June 2, 2006 04:32 PM

They are going back to the blue and gold next year. The originals for 10 games (replacing the red) and an alteration of the old school for the regulars. They are very "unique" according to a friend of mine who works in the design group for the Sabres. He gave me a couple details and they sound interesting.

Listened to almost playoff game over wgr550.com in London, England (I'm a Buffalo native; grew up going to Sabres games at the Aud). The team inspired me and even converted my fiance into a (1) hockey fan and (2) a huge Sabre fan! It was a tough loss last night, but these guys played with all they had and I have the utmost respect for them as individuals and as a ice hockey club. The team deserves a standing ovation and Lindy Ruff should be proud of himself and his team. Well done Sabres! Looking forward to the new season and the uniforms. Rest up, it's gonna be a long ride to the next years cup!

Steve June 2, 2006 05:54 PM

I've never missed Buffalo more than I have through these playoffs. To be there and be a part of this would have been indescribable, instead of being 1200 miles away where nobody even cares about hockey. Still, watching every game and reading about how Buffalo responded was the next best thing. I can't wait for next season. Maybe I'll even be there by then.

Andrew Kulyk June 2, 2006 09:02 PM

How amazing it was that a hokcey team could life the spirits of an entire city! For six weeks of the playoffs, we all ate, slept and breathed Sabres hockey, and for this shining moment, we believed that as a community we could accomplish anything.

The outpouring of love and support here and elsewhere is astounding. Now let's take a rest, and for those of you who aren't season ticket holders, get a group of friends, co-workers, family members etc and get a buying group together and get season tickets. This is the lifeblood of a franchise -- plus the Sabres give amazing deals to their best customers. One of the best entertainment bargains going. We have had four season tickets since the 94-95 season...sec 11 in the blues and now sec 113 in the lowers.

Our participants enjoy the benefits, and come playoff time we can relax knowing our tickets are there for the asking.

Thanks Sabres!

The team was great this year, hope those guys get healed up and get rested, they deserve time with their families and friends now. A great team all the way thru.

let this year be a warning!!!

transplant June 3, 2006 01:27 AM

I just want to say that as a newcomer to Buffalo, and someone who grew up in an area where hockey was non-existant thanks to an idiot owner (Chicago.)

Anyhow, whoever said that they didn't break their heart, but stole it, is dead on. These guys represented this city as well as any professional franchise ever has.

I think that this horribly struggling city could learn a lot from its hockey club. If they put their personal egos aside, and work together as a team, their is no limit to what they can accomplish. Everyone told this team that they couldn't but they did...

Everyone else has told this city that is dead or dying...time for our elected officials to take page from the swordsmen.

bflover June 3, 2006 01:12 PM

The only disappointment was Lindy Ruff's big mouth... and John Davidson's crack that you can always find "plenty of seats" on the light rail. Other than that, a season to be immensely proud of. Thank you, Sabres.

During a preson game in Rochester (vs. Wild) I made a sign that read Buffalo Sabres 2005-06 Stanley Cup Champions. As the playoffs went on my fun pridiction became scary/exciting. But there was a side of me that was sad if they had one there first title in uniforms they would be repacing. I love the tradition of the Blue and Gold and can't wait for the first title to be in those colors! LET'S GO BUFFALO!!!! 2006-07 Stanley Cup Champions!!!
