Buffalo Rising

“Wouldn’t it be great if Buffalo had…”

by buffalorising

How many times have you said that then realized your idea requires money you don’t have and don’t know how to raise?

The time, energy, and skills required to be a successful fundraiser are possessed by a radical subset of the universe of people who want to make a difference. And those folks, the folks without the time and skills required to be effective fundraisers, often have to tailor their specific hopes to the agendas of those who know how to make rain.

No more. Just as money was invented when trade became so complex that barter restricted its progress, fundable was created to enable anyone with an idea to effectively and efficiently raise the funds to make it happen.

fundable is a new service that lets groups of people pool money for various purposes in what are called "group actions." Similar to an online auction, a group action has its own page, describing how much money will be collected and what the money will do. No participant takes a risk: if the collection for a group action falls short of its target on deadline, all money is refunded.

How can this help Buffalonians?

Say you’re a fan of the Decemberists. You find out their “Advance of the Picaroons Tour” is scheduled to stop in NYC, Toronto, even Columbus but not Buffalo because the band’s management is afraid of low turnout.

With fundable, you could start a “group action” to pre-sell enough tickets for the Decemberists to come. If enough people aren’t interested, everyone gets their money back.

Or Brad Wales, AIA, has another badass idea like the bus stop near Coda. He’s determined a budget but wants to open the fundraising effort to design and architecture patrons outside of Buffalo as well as those who live in the city.

With fundable, people are more likely to contribute, knowing that their money will either take action or come back to them. And Mr. Wales can fire up supporters by setting specific, all-or-nothing fundraising goals.

Think of the last time you said, “Wouldn’t it be great if Buffalo had…" Then take a look at fundable. Then make it happen.
