after years of running a nice, spam-free site, it looks like bots have gotten around bro's spam protections. have you considered having captchas whenever someone signs up for an account?

They're apparently figured out a way to circumvent the spam protections- it's happening with all the platforms using Moveable Type. The powers that be at BRO are considering moving to a different publishing platform. I'm just as frustrated as you are- I'm often unpublishing or deleting a dozen or more spam comments every morning!
Does flagging these spam messages help you, or does it just add to the clutter?
Just block China, Vietnam, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Nigeria, Bulgaria and Romania. It's a drastic measure, but it'll take care of 99% of forum and blog spamming.
you gotta do something. one article i opened this morning had 10 spam comments and 1 legit. if that ratio continues, your audience will go elsewhere.

Anyone else see a yellow triangle with a question mark in it at the bottom left of this page when clicking into Buffalo Rising? It reads: "Done, but with error on page." This error only comes up at Buffalo Rising.
When I click on it twice, up comes many references to ristorantilombardo.c being restricted many times along with other messages including some that are a smiley-like symbol relating to Bflo. Rising using it. We also found some rearranging on my computer. I e-mailed Bflo. Rising about this and we have been keeping a record... 12-19-11 8:05 PM

i mean, come on, guys, its been two months now. if i was in charge, i'd have fired your asses for letting it continue for months without bothering to explain to us how you are trying to prevent it. no one expects perfection but bro's silence looks like stonewalling.
We are not on WordPress, we're on Movable Type. MT has been orphaned by the software company that built it and one of the many results of that is spammers finding ways through the software as is happening on countless MT sites nowadays. We're moving to WordPress shortly which will fix this problem more permanently than our current method of patching the system, finding spam accounts, banning them, deleting comments, etc.
Also, the 'silence' (which apparently doesn't include the number of comments from BR writers on this thread and in other threads on the site - looks like we're stonewalling what exactly?
you could have proactively posted an article about the problem and your attempted solutions, instead of leaving it to random remarks in unrelated comment streams.

I run 5 tuners in that deck (Commander, Krebons, Plaguespreader) which is the acceptable minimum for any synchro deck. The theme was at the top.

Besides what might be happening at BRising, my techies installed a FREE malwarebytes which found a bunch of malicious items on my computer that the service I am PAYING for did not find. After Malwarebytes removed that garbage my computer runs a bit faster for now. But the same errors keep happening for me here at BRising and no place else. Meanwhile my techies will be updating my entire computer.
Someone else who is also paying for protection on their computer also installed that free malwarebytes and over 400 items were found and removed and that computer now zips along!!! 1-9-12 11:09 AM
What does it mean that, of all the many sites and blogs on my computer, when Malwarebytes.com is reinstalled on my computer I cannot get back into Buffalo Rising; Malwarebytes keeps blocking BRis as malicious and there is a specific item blocked? Inorder to get back here Malwarebytes needs to be completely eliminated. Admin, are you reading this?

Again, after my last comment of 1-9-12 and after reinstalling free Malwarebytes it was necessary to uninstall Malwarebytes because it will not allow Buffalo Rising, blocking this site as malicious and listing why. Nothing else I click on is blocked by MalB. My paid-for security does allow Brising. 1-24-12 12:20 PM

After having all traces of free Malwarebytes.c "shredded" from my computer, I am guessing BRising will now work for me??? BUT, other computers with the free Mal can either get in here briefly or not at all when free Mal catches up to those computers!!!

ok, it has been over 3 months now with no visible effort to combat the spam. i am getting tired of doing unpaid clean-up every day by reporting spam comments. if you're not going to institute captchas, then you should require every author to monitor their active posts and do their own cleanup.
I definitely come here less and less due to the spam. Get with the program and clean it up already. Sometimes I feel like I'm staring at a graffiti covered wall when I read posts here.
