Saturday Brunch @ BRKB
Black Rock Kitchen and Bar has now been open for a couple of years, and according to owner Mark Goldman Sunday brunch business has been so booming that they have decided to extend the brunch to Saturdays. Now Buffalonians can get their Saturday brunch fix at BRKB with the same great offerings that they have been dishing out on Sundays (see here).
This is the perfect idea for a street and neighborhood that could use the added life generated from even one successful restaurant.

Mardi Gras @ The Broadway Market
Sometimes you may want to experience Mardi Gras indoors, depending on what your mood is in or around that festive day, not to mention what Mother Nature might be throwing your way. In that case, The Broadway Market is hosting a Mardi Gras this Saturday, with live music, dancing and a lecture series from 9am to 4pm. What a great way to spend your time... if only there was live music playing at more markets around the city more often!
When was the last time that you paid a visit to the Broadway Market? Often times it takes an event to draw the non-regulars to discover all

Joe’s Deli brings the flavor of Hertel to Elmwood
It's been over five years since Off the Wall restaurant went out of business on Elmwood Avenue. In that time there has hardly been any news regarding potential suitors for the building, and every time I spoke to the building owner there appeared to be not even a glimmer of hope for a buyer. Eventually I gave up hoping and praying that someone would buy the building, and set up shop inside.
It was out of the blue that Joe Lyons, owner of Joe's Deli on Hertel Avenue, swooped down and purchased the long-vacant restaurant location. Joe's Deli first opened

The Rendezvous and you
It's like déjà vu all over again. Back in 2007 I wrote about this historic establishment in hopes that an accomplished restaurateur with a vision would do the right thing and lease it. Unfortunately that didn't happen. The Rendezvous was leased, but instead of reverting back to a historic bar, it was turned into a nightclub. Thankfully, the guys who ran the business left most everything intact, although they did take out the great old booths and tables in the back room. What a bummer.

NOLA
If you've been wondering what ever happened to Lagniappes French Quarter Café in Allentown, then you might be surprised when I tell you that they moved deep into the West Side of the city. That's right, the restaurant is now being called NOLA (New Orleans Style Food), and has taken over the former Carmen's Kitchen location (Auburn and West). That's quite a move for owner operator Chris Silverstein, who is in the process of launching an additional food truck business (see here).

Manakeesh & More
One of the things that I love about Hertel Avenue these days is the ever-increasing diversity when it comes to ethnic cuisine. Whenever a new café or bakery or restaurant opens I'm usually just a few minutes behind, looking to try out the offerings in hopes to find new culinary discoveries or variations in traditional offerings.
I knew that when I saw Manakeesh & More opening that they would have their own twists when it comes to Middle Eastern Cuisine. I always look to learn a couple of new traditions along the way. For example, when I asked for a cup of coffee,

Mike A brings back the Power Lunch
There's yet another good reason to head to the Hotel @ The Lafayette for lunch these days. Mike A @ The Lafayette is now open Wednesday through Friday from 11:30am to 2:30pm, and not only offers one of the nicest atmospheric daytime dining experiences in the city, it also offers some darn good food. Aside from the food, the restaurant is promoting that "The Bar is Open for your version of the Three Martini Lunch"... ouch!
Owner/Chef Mike Andrzejewski's recipe for success this time is the introduction of a stripped down lunch menu that plays off of famous lunch

Seabar Represents
If you had asked me which Buffalo restaurant would be represented at the Super Bowl, I probably would not have guessed Seabar. Maybe that's because I would have figured on a wing joint, as wings are synonymous with Buffalo. Same with Beef on Weck. That's why I was surprised to hear that Seabar had been chosen to represent Buffalo, along with a host of restaurants from every other state around the country.
When it comes to the "Taste of the NFL", the honor of representing a hometown is fairly prestigious. This weekend Seabar will set up a table at the New

The Kitchen Table: Give it a try!
My dad rarely texts me about restaurants that he has discovered. That's because when he heads to a new restaurant, it's usually with me. So I was surprised to get a text from him a couple of days ago that read, "Burgers at The Kitchen Table are great. Serves breakfast all day. Homemade soup - terrific. Owner is wonderful and our waitress is so pleasant." Now that I think about it, that was the first time that my dad ever sent a text to me to tell me about a restaurant, period.
Today I decided that I would stop in to see what he was texting about. He was right about the

Vasilis Express brings recipe for success to Hertel
After first opening on Elmwood two years ago, and then seconding that motion by opening a second location in Downtown Buffalo this past December, Vasilis Express is moving forward with a third location. This time it's the former Grumpy's location on Hertel Avenue. Let's hope that the recipe for success continues, as the newest location could be a smashing success if all goes according to plan. After all, this location exudes so much potential

Perfetto!
After years of waiting and wondering if the vacant Ya Ya Brewhouse space would ever land a new owner and concept, it was announced back in July that restaurateur Jay Haynes would be opening Perfetto. Thankfully, the time has finally come to check out the newly remodeled 8,300 square foot space. A few of us stopped in for lunch a couple days back after hearing from friends that the food was great, as was the atmosphere.
Thinking back to the days of Ya Ya, I clearly recall that

Lunching @ La Tee Da
By GirlFriday:
When one thinks of grabbing a quick lunch during the work week, words like whimsical, sumptuous and refreshing don't tend to come to mind; however, that's all changed after having lunch at La Tee Da late last week.  La Tee Da has been offering lunch service since just after Thanksgiving, yet with the craziness of the holiday season, I unfortunately became stuck in my usual routine of quick reliable bites - it can be hard to explore new lunch spots when you're in a

Buffalo Food Trucks
If you're like me, then you have a hard time keeping up with all of the food trucks that continually appear to hit the road in Buffalo. It seems as if there is a new truck launching every month. Fortunately for us, Derek Neuland has come up with a website that allows us to navigate the food truck scene. From Knight Slider to The Black Market Food Truck, there are all sorts of mobile culinary creations that can be found in all corners of the city.

Pure Peru pops up on Amherst Street
Another offshoot of the West Side Bazaar has sprung up in Buffalo, this time in Black Rock. Success stories continue to unfold in the form of small businesses breaking away from the bazaar in order to set off on their own. This time it's Martha Sosa, who you might recall from a Buffalo Rising article back in March of 2011, who has opened a small Peruvian boutique on Amherst Street called Pure Peru. The store is chock full of colorful imported wares ranging in style and price. What makes Martha and her shop so unique

Madonna’s brings on the burgers (and the soups)
If you're looking for a new lunch spot, and you're a fan of burgers and hand cut French fries, then I've got the place for you. Today was the first day that Madonna's (learn more) started serving lunch. Seeing that the owners also have connections at Café 59 across the street, I was curious as to what the daytime menu might look like. It was co-owner Chris Connolly who told me that they were going to to be going after the burger crowd thanks to procuring a secret weapon. "We've got Mike from K. Gallagher's cooking

Dog Ears gets a Café
We all know that bookstores and cafés go hand-in-hand with one another. Thankfully, it didn't take long to fill the former Caz Café with another coffee shop and eatery, once the space was vacated. After all, it's the combination of the two concepts that ultimately fuels the success of the entire enterprise. Owner of Dog Ears bookstore, Thomas McDonnell, decided to take matters into his own hands in order to secure the destiny of his bookstore. This Saturday he will be opening Dog Ears Café with plans to continue on with the traditions and offerings that his customers have come to expect.

A bittersweet day in Buffalo
Today is a bittersweet day. While The City was busy allowing a North Buffalo neighborhood to be pillaged, developer Karl Frizlen was busy helping to create a community on the city's West Side. As I walked from my house, down Connecticut Street towards the Winter Market at Horsefeathers I found myself deep in thought. Instead of thinking about what lay ahead of me, I couldn't get the church on Colvin out of my mind. Even as I sit here typing, enjoying the fruits from the market,

Winter Market at Horsefeathers opens Saturday!
By GirlFriday:
Buffalonians can get their first sights and tastes of the renovated Horsefeathers building tomorrow with the launch of the Winter Market, located at 346 Connecticut Street. As of now the building is very much remains a work in progress, yet enough is complete to finally open the doors of this storied building.
Karl Frizlen, president of The Frizlen Group, shares that "While the building will not be 100 percent complete for the opening on Saturday, we will unveil our new storefront, new floors and ceilings are

Interview with Buffalo Tom of Buffalo Tom’s Gourmet Hot Sauce
How many years have you been in business?
My Sauce originally came out in 2002 (see history), but was out of production from 2007 to 2011 due to circumstances beyond my control and Family Matters that needed my utmost full attention. I started back up again in Jan of 2012 and I am now prepared to share My Recipe Creations with one and all who will give The Man from Buffalo a chance.
How did you come to make the hot sauce?
