Tales from the Kleinhans Neighborhood Crypt

Tales from the Kleinhans Neighborhood CryptOct 24th - 25th42 Plymouth Avenue,
Buffalo, NY

Two-hour Twilight Exterior Walking Tour

Take a spooky walk through the Kleinhans neighborhood and see the sites where ghostly tales have been passed down for generations... you will be led on the tour by a guide (with a candle-lantern to light the way) who will show you the macabre sites. See where there was once a cemetery - now abandoned, yet some bodies still remain... see where the ghosts of the old Fargo mansion are said to still roam... hear tales of angered ghosts who seek vengeance against those who defiled their graves… and of the War of 1812 soldier who roams the neighborhood looking for his stolen skull... and many more! The old houses of the Kleinhans neighborhood have seen many funerals cross through their “casket doors,” and at dusk the houses take on a haunted ambiance. Be sure to bring a flashlight and your courage... being so close to Halloween and El Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), who knows if one of the ghosts will make an appearance.

Tour begins at Heart of the City Neighborhoods. Doors open at 5:00 PM; cider and donuts await. Proceeds benefit Heart of the City Neighborhoods, Inc. Space is limited. Please call 716.882.7661 or eMail Stephanie Simeon for reservations.

            The Emerald Ball

The Emerald BallOct 25th - 26th107 Delaware Avenue,
            Buffalo, NY

The Emerald Ball was reborn in October of 2004 after a hiatus of over 50 years. The event is modeled after a Gala held in the Golden Ballroom of the Statler until the 1950’s. The event brought Irish and Irish Americans together to enjoy traditional Irish music and celebrate their heritage. Preparations began months before as outfits were planned and groups assembled. The gala kicked off the St. Patrick’s holiday.

The new Ball is a formal affair that also celebrates traditional Irish music, dance, literature and more. The Ball is now held in October so as not to compete against other WNY celebrations in March. The mission of the Emerald Ball is to provide leadership and resources to preserve, interpret and promote Irish-American culture.

This annual event now sees over 450 attendees gather together to support the work of our Irish non-profit organizations as well as community non-profits. Due to popular demand, Eileen Fogarty and the Very Best Show Band will be brought in from New York City once again to perform at the ball. Dinner will feature a duo of petite filet Mignon with boneless breast of chicken Francaisse.

With the assistance of our sponsors (Jacqueline Shoppe, Tara Gift Shoppe, Blu Spa and Salon, South End Florists, WJ Morrissey’s Pub, The Irishman Pub, Dog Ear’s Bookstore, and Rince Na Tiarna Irish Dancers), this year’s event will add to the tens of thousands of dollars already generated for the Western New York community.
