Tales from the Kleinhans Neighborhood Crypt
Oct 24th - 25th42 Plymouth Avenue,
Buffalo, NY
Two-hour Twilight Exterior Walking Tour
Take a spooky walk through the Kleinhans neighborhood and see the sites where ghostly tales have been passed down for generations... you will be led on the tour by a guide (with a candle-lantern to light the way) who will show you the macabre sites. See where there was once a cemetery - now abandoned, yet some bodies still remain... see where the ghosts of the old Fargo mansion are said to still roam... hear tales of angered ghosts who seek vengeance against those who defiled their graves… and of the War of 1812 soldier who roams the neighborhood looking for his stolen skull... and many more! The old houses of the Kleinhans neighborhood have seen many funerals cross through their “casket doors,” and at dusk the houses take on a haunted ambiance. Be sure to bring a flashlight and your courage... being so close to Halloween and El Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), who knows if one of the ghosts will make an appearance.
Tour begins at Heart of the City Neighborhoods. Doors open at 5:00 PM; cider and donuts await. Proceeds benefit Heart of the City Neighborhoods, Inc. Space is limited. Please call 716.882.7661 or eMail Stephanie Simeon for reservations.
The Movement
Fri, Oct 24th 2008
6:00pm639 Main Street,
Buffalo, NY
This urban gangster drama is the true story of Bags of Money, an ex-criminal turned businessman with no room for pity or emotions, flashy but severe. The Author of Thug Motivation has now created a Film/Documentary titled The Movement. Bags of money has built an empire and transformed an abandoned city into a well-profitable economic force. First-time director Shot Caller Extraordinaire keeps the traditional plot moving at an appropriately rapid pace, with stylish action sequences and energetic performances. This movement is somewhat controversial. However, the film's moral message is clearly anti-drug and anti-crime, its main intent to provide a high-powered, modern take on a gangster’s movement to corporate America.

Sounds in the American Dark
Fri, Oct 24th 2008
7:00pm1285 Elmwood Avenue,
Buffalo, NY
A night of vanishing, "blindingly beautiful" American music. Riverrun and Cinegael Buffalo present “Sounds in the American Dark,” an evening of rare music, art, and film with Art Rosenbaum and family, as part of Gusto at the Gallery.
Rosenbaum has spent over 50 years traveling in the American south and mid-west, field recording such vanishing traditional music as slave and ring shout, murder ballads, slide and bottleneck blues, work chants, corridos, gospel and more. He has traveled with his wife Margo, whose photographs accompany his work and more recently, with his son Neil, a documentarian who has filmed many of the field recordings.
The program begins at 7PM with the premiere screening of Neil Rosenbaum’s “Sing My Troubles By,” a powerful introduction to America’s darkly beautiful music traditions. Afterward, Neil Rosenbaum and Patrick Martin, director of riverrun and Cinegael Buffalo, will discuss this unusual film.
At 8:15PM Art Rosenbaum will speak and present rare music and interviews from his archives and from “Goodbye Babylon.” A musician and artist himself (and a retired Professor of Art from the University of Georgia), Rosenbaum will also perform some of the music with local Buffalo musicians including his long time friend, Professor Laurence Shine, of Buffalo State College. The artwork and photographs of Art and Margo Rosenbaum will also be on display (artwork pictured is by Art Rosenbaum—the cover of “Art of Field Recording: Vol 1”).
At 9:30PM, Art and Neil Rosenbaum, now producing “Art of Field Recording: Vol 2,” will field record selected Buffalo musicians. Music will continue in the Muse Restaurant from 10-11PM. There will be a cash bar. The entire program is available at www.riverrunbuffalo.org and www.albrightknox.org. This event is free and open to the public.
