Extracting Intelligence from Social Media Data
Rohini Srihari, UB Department of Computer Science
There has been a meteoric rise in the amount of content on the web generated by ordinary users. This includes social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube, as well as blogs, discussion forums, and reader responses to articles on traditional news sites. Social media data can be mined for many purposes including business-related competitive insight, counterterrorism and law enforcement applications, as well as citizen response to current issues.
Dr. Srihari's talk will focus on computational techniques for extracting such information and assimilating it into actionable intelligence. Current approaches for mining foreign languages such as Chinese and Arabic will also be discussed.
