Why did Peter Pan become quickly established as a household name and why does he remain so today? What values and dynamics does he represent in the 20th- and 21st-century Western psyche? How does a study of Barrie's hero help us reflect on our own relation to the archetypal energies Peter Pan embodies, energies essential to life and creativity but so often channeled to destructive ends. Through a study of the complexity of Barrie's Peter Pan, we will explore the myriad faces of that archetypal imperative reflected in the image of the puer aeternus (eternal youth), and reconsider ways in which these energies may affect our personal and collective lives, consciously or unconsciously, positively or negatively.
