A New stART is a juried art show and auction that raises money to help victims of domestic violence. The Family Justice Center of Erie County (FJC) and Artspace Buffalo have teamed up for the event to mark October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Tickets include admission to the art show/auction plus wine, beer and heavy hors d'oevres, music by Casperous Vine and art work from local and out of town artists.
A New stART is the first collaboration between the FJC and Artspace. The title of the event honors the courage and resilience of survivors of domestic violence. The artwork will focus on uplifting and hopeful imagery, the possibility of change, inner strength and courage and the way forward. Proceeds from the sale of the artwork be split 50-50 between the artist and the FJC.
The juror for A New stART is James Pappas, associate professor in the African-American Studies Department at the University at Buffalo and co-founder of the Langston Hughes Center for the Visual and Performing Arts.
