This Winter I Could Only paint Spring Flowers
Fri, May 9th 2008
6:00pm65 Allen Street,
Buffalo, NY
This Winter I could only paint Spring flowers features new work by Buffalo artist Barbara Baird. Join Barbara and friends at the opening reception tonight.
Barbara Baird, well known artist throughout New York, was born and bred in Eden, where she still spends half the year. Eden is a farming community about 25 miles south of Buffalo so she is very familiar with its environs. Therefore, it is no surprise that much of her work is based on the rural landscape, exploring the patterns and lines that imposed by us on the randomness of Nature. The roads, silos, plowed fields, orchards and planted crops all bestow a beautiful symmetry and geometry upon the earth, imparting the most logical way to get from one point to another, and thus creating endless vanishing points on the horizon. Found objects, such as nests, bones, dead insects and dead birds are also an important part of her subject matter. And what painter is not occasionally beguiled by those enticing flowers? For the first time in a solo exhibition, Barbara will debut all those enticing flowers. We invite you to explore Barbara Baird's inspiration in this unique show.

Come check out The Pete Best Band with Beatlemagic and special guests The Fab Five!
Re-live the exciting pre-Beatlemania days of 1960-62 with the man who put the original beat in The Beatles: Pete Best and The Pete Best Band.
The band will take you on an amazing journey back to Liverpool's Cavern Club, The Casbah, and the rollicking clubs of Hamburg, Germany. You'll be singing along with the Mersey beatin', high-energy songs that The Beatles played live on stage in the early years with Best on drums, including "My Bonnie", the recording that lit the initial spark of Beatlemania in 1961.
Fantastic rock-n-roll classics are on tap, including some early Beatle's originals, plus fun firsthand stories about John, Paul, George and Stu, from the man who shared the stage.

If You Give a Pig a Party
Fri, May 9th 2008
7:00pm203 Allen Street,
Buffalo, NY
If You Give a Pig a Party is a musical based on the best-selling family-favorite by the authors of If You Gave A Pig A Pancake and If You Gave A Mouse A Cookie. When this little piggy is thrown a party, she’ll ask for some balloons. When you give her the balloons, she’ll want a lovely party dress, decorations, invitations…and more and more and more! When she’s finished, she’ll call all of her friends – Mouse, Moose, Dog, Cat and Snake for games, snacks, and treats! When the party ends they’ll all clean the house, take a scrub in the tub, find pajamas…have pillow fights…and another party!
“The set for If You Give A Pig A Party is unlike any other previously designed for the TOY stage.” remarks Kenneth Shaw, TOY’s Resident Set and Costume Designer, “Drops and other elements that frame the stage are sculpted entirely of balloons. Colorful and light, the set is literally a big party, with a fun and airy atmosphere that will quickly draw very young children into the feeling of the show.”
