RiverFest River Regatta aka Build A Darn Boat!

RiverFest River Regatta aka Build A Darn Boat!

On June 21st one of the city's most adventurous groups of builders and boaters are going to be taking to the Buffalo River. They're going to launch off into the river on boats that they will spend the next few weeks building. And the organizers are looking for more contestants to enter their home-built watercrafts. Last evening I ran into two of the organizers tossing back some brews at The Swannie House (on the Buffalo River). Rick Smith and Dave Smith (along with Swannie Jim) were already getting 'their regatta on' in preparation for this year's RiverFest.

The event is sponsored by Buffalo's very own Rigidized Metals. And this will be the first year that cash prizes are awarded to the winners ($1000 top cash prize). The contestant that enters the "Most Creative Seaworthy Vessel" will win the waterlogged hearts of the judges and come away with the booty. Remember, sinking ships are disqualified... and only crafts that make it to the finish line qualify for a prize. Start time is 11am on June 21st. This year will be the first year that electric motors are allowed, though human power is preferred. Oh, and as far as the losers go... their prize is waiting for them in the Buffalo River (better to test that craft in a pool first).
