Buffalo loves its Bills, but does it love brownie bites and fudge swirls? Perry's Ice Cream is hoping so.
The local ice cream maker officially unveiled its newest sports-inspired flavor, Buffalo Bills Brownie Blitz. Kicking off the new flavor with a press conference at Tops Friendly Markets on Elmwood, Perry's Ice Cream and the Buffalo Bills joined together this past Monday to offer media, shoppers and fans a free sample of Brownie Blitz.
Combining fudge swirls with brownie chunks and French Vanilla ice cream, the ingredients of Brownie Blitz are simple, but the initial task of choosing flavors was much more complex. With a potential list of nearly 50 ingredient options, Perry's and the Bills were faced with an extensive elimination process. As the official ice cream of the Bills, Perry's representatives said they worked closely with the team to develop the concept and the flavors surrounding Blitz.
The verdict? After tasting the latest flavor, I have to say, it has the potential to score with fans--especially those who don’t like overpowering flavor. Its ingredients are varied enough so that it establishes itself from other Perry’s sports ice creams, like Ryan Miller’s Breakaway Berrier (which combines dark chocolate and raspberry swirls) and Sabres Top Shelf Sundae (which features fudge coated cone pieces and peanuts).
Still, it’s basic enough to satisfy any picky ice cream eater. No nuts, no berries, no coffee beans, no cookie dough. For some, this might be perfect; for others it might get boring after a few spoonfuls, so having some hot fudge or whipped cream on hand might be best. By itself, Brownie Blitz isn’t out-of-this-world original, but it’s a reliable and satisfying treat, and let’s face it, sometimes that’s exactly what you need during the summer. Come to think of it, that’s probably exactly what you need after a heart-wrenching, day-depressing loss...should that ever happen.
Will Bills fans be trading bowls of Brownie Blitz alongside burgers and Labatts come tailgating time? Maybe not. But at least they’ll have a cold gallon waiting for them in the freezer when they get home.
