Tomorrow, the National Trust for Historic Preservation is holding a press conference and rally in Front Park. The rally is being held to explain why the area near Front Park, Prospect Hill and Columbus Park is being designated as one of America’s 11 Most Endangered Historic Places. Peter Joe Certo says, “The press conference is going to explain the designation for historical preservation.” He hopes the rally will help to "raise the level of discussion and to educate.”
Certo, who lives on Columbus Park, says that the National Trust for Historic Preservation is correct in their assertions that the reason the area is being put on the list is because of development, public policy, and road construction. “The public policy has basically been to support the efforts of the Peace Bridge,” says Certo.
Certo says that the Peace Bridge expansion proposal is “flawed…deeply flawed. They’ve already redesigned their plaza in Fort Erie and they’re trying to make it a bridge to the past.” Certo says they need to preserve the area while building a bridge to the future.
The National Trust for Historic Preservation feels that saving this neighborhood is a national priority. You can learn more about the endangered neighborhood at this website. The rally and press conference at Front Park will begin at noon tomorrow, May 22nd.
