Having been in the same location for two years, it seems Michael Morgulis is planning a big step for his gallery, Local Color. Morgulis, whose design studio, New Buffalo Graphics, uses his gallery in The Neighborhood Collective at 810 Elmwood as a showcase for his work, says in his latest newsletter that he is adding a new location for his work. However, he does plan to keep a presence in The Neighborhood Collective.
Morgulis plans to open a New Buffalo Graphics store on Hertel Avenue in what he describes as the “heart of Buffalo’s North Side neighborhood.” Though this is big news for this local artist, for now he is keeping the details under wraps. A new location could mean more sales for Morgulis who has experienced success being located above Tru-Teas.
Ever the busy individual, Morgulis is working on the new store in secret while working with writers and poets from the area in what he describes as a “traditionally collaborative form.” Morgulis is creating special prints using the combination of words and pictures to create broadsides. Tru-Teas hosts readings by the authors. After the reading, the author is then available to sign the broadsides created by Morgulis that features their work. The next reading will feature Ryki Zuckerman and takes place on February 3 at 4pm.
Having been away for about a month visiting Austin, Texas, Morgulis is back in Buffalo and getting back to work. Even taking a short vacation didn’t stop Morgulis from putting out his monthly t-shirt that is on sale for the month of February. You can check that out as well as other works by Morgulis at www.newbuffalographics.com or stop in to The Neighborhood Collective and drink a cup of tea while viewing his work in the Local Color gallery.
