GUERILLAS ATTACK CITY HALL!

Guerilla Gardeners, that is. Yes folks, the City of Buffalo Guerilla Gardeners (CBGGis) struck again last night, this time at a neglected little plot at the foot of Court Street downtown, right across from City Hall and next to a busy bus stop. Inspired by some recent support from as far away as California to the west and Massachusetts to the east, the Guerillas felt they needed to make one more planting effort before packing away their trowels for the winter. Apparently Mother Nature looks kindly on the guerilla gardeneris efforts too, for she provided a beautifully warm, clear night for their arduous work.

So what did they plant? More daffodils. Yay, daffodils! Last nightis team launched an assault on a formidable collection of weeds and garbage (including an old Thursday in the Square cup and a long-dead rat), before turning over all the dirt and otherwise preparing the new garden. Thanks to donations that enabled the Guerillas to purchase a brand new shovel, garden rake, and icultivatori, less than two hours after they began, over 50 daffodil bulbs had a new home!

This night, as the Guerilla Gardeners worked, lots of passersby took notice. Several stopped their cars to ask what the group doing and wished them well when told about the groupis efforts. Others thought the group looked friendly and industrious and decided to ask for directions to HSBC arena, the Peace Bridge, and other locales. One group of out of towners asked the Guerillas if they could recommend a place to have dinner and drinks. A limousine driver stopped and offered helpful gardening tips. A female police officer inquired about the groupis activity and thought it was a terrific idea. A crew from WIVB (channel 4) was covering another event by City Hall and walked over to see what the group was up to. A woman from WKBW (channel 7) who just happened by in her car was curious enough to ask the group how long they would be there. She seemed interested in filming the group (from a distance of course so as to maintain their anonymity), but the job was finished before she returned. The Guerilla Gardeners didnit expect so much attention, but were energized by the support (and no they never ended up giving any television interviews with pixilated faces and masked voices)!

The Guerilla Gardeners would like to thank everyone who has contributed to their cause thus far. Rest assured, the money that hasnit been spent yet is being squirreled away for the winter and will be used for plantings next Spring. Despite their small, newly found nest egg, the City of Buffalo Guerilla Gardeners remain a group of dirt-covered green-thumbed scavengers, and all help is appreciated! -Post and photos generously provided by the CBGG.
