Yesterday marked the grand opening of the Elmwood Market. We stopped in around 6pm to see how the first day was and Dale (co-owner) was on hand to give us the details. “We’re still waiting on some of our organic items and our beers, but customers seemed happy in general. We’re getting many requests from people about what they want to see here. A couple of people brought us flowers and balloons… the response has been amazing so far.”
While I was at the market I picked up a copy of their menu… yes, their menu. I knew that they were going to have a deli… but I did not realize that there would be so many fresh hot and cold subs served on toasted Costanzo's Bakery rolls. I also didn’t realize that there would be a selection of burgers, wraps, salads and sandwiches. The extensive menu even includes a Friday fish fry. Just take a look at the side orders… fries alone – fries, spicy curly fries, cheese fries, chili fries, cheese fries with bacon. And there are twelve different salads – both healthy and not-so-healthy. If I didn’t know better I would think that there was a full-fledged restaurant located inside. It also doesn’t hurt that there is a coffee bar, and breakfast sandwiches are served throughout the day. I would imagine that the Elmwood Market will be a busy stop for workers on their way downtown in the morning.
Unfortunately I could not stick around and purchase anything to eat since I was already running late for dinner. I did eventually discover that the person who was making dinner had already been shopping at the Elmwood Market earlier in the day.
