Workers began to demo Canisius' Frauenheim Hall yesterday in order to make way for the school's proposed Field House. This was by no means a sorry day for the neighborhood as the outdated building was looked at as an eyesore for all of the decades that it stood on Cleveland Avenue. Not only will the nondescript, brick, box-style building be removed, the modern day improvements to the campus will include updated ADA requirements as well as traffic modifications. If you missed Steve Stipanovich's post back in November, you may want to check it out. The school is making some big changes that also include the building of a new Math and Science Wing. The proposed $14 million development includes a new 27,000 sq.ft. Field House built on the site of the current Frauenheim Hall, which is located on the Cleveland Avenue side of the Canisius campus, just to the right of the famous “Blue Doors”. The Field House will include a full-sized basketball court arena, which will be configurable into three individual practice courts. This modular configurability will help to significantly reduce the need for early morning and late night practices.
The Math and Science Wing, as proposed, will include classrooms designed around the concepts of curriculum integration and academic excellence. Also to be located in the basement of this wing will be an expanded cafeteria facility that will offer increased schedule flexibility, which currently does not exist due to the limiting size of the current cafeteria. The 26,000 sq.ft. Math and Science Wing will be constructed as an extension of the Beecher Classroom Wing on the West Ferry side of campus.
