Monday night a group of BR's readers and staffers gathered at Nektar for a few drinks, some banh mi, and great conversation. Fun was had by all! We love to mingle with readers, those that we've known for a long time and those we've never met before. We hope they had as much fun as we did.
The winning Fantasy Foodball item was served up by Nektar with their own twist. Their take on banh mi was interesting, the main flavor came from the addition of Korean kimchi to what is a Vietnamese sandwich traditionally served as inexpensive "fast food" up and down America's coasts. Attendees with a passion for spicy cuisine were thrilled with the end result.
For those of you curious about banh mi, I have it on authority that Joe's Deli on Hertel and Colvin carries a sandwich called "The Body" (a sandwich crafted in honor of Ristorante Lombardo's Chef Salvati) that possesses all of the traditional components of banh mi.
Thank you again to Nektar and to all of those that joined us. Stay tuned to Buffalo Rising for information on upcoming BR events.
