As an effort to celebrate the recent passage of the Complete Streets legislation, Common Council members are asking people to bike to work tomorrow. Council members are planning on biking to work as well. They will be arriving at Lafayette Square at 9am where they hope to see other two-wheel enthusiasts heading downtown. The councilmembers will be joined by Green Options Buffalo to publicly announce the Complete Streets policy. Please stop by on the way to work to show your support. This is all part of an ongoing attempt to promote healthy living and safe streets in the city.
I have also just received word that Councilmen Rivera and LoCurto have sent a letter to Director of Parking, Leonard Sciolino, in support of keeping some of the parking meter poles in place for future bike racks. They have even discussed the parking meter-to-bike rack conversions with Justin Azzarella, Director of the Elmwood Village Association. Justin has been working hard to get new bike racks on Elmwood Avenue. These combined efforts will hopefully ensure that Buffalo becomes as bike-friendly as possible. Hey, if you have the day off tomorrow... grab your bike and head down to Bird Island Grill.
