Did you ever wonder when Buffalo would rank as one of the top cities for being single? If so, you can stop wondering. Forbes has just added Buffalo to the list of Best Cities for Singles. The criteria for such a distinction includes culture, nightlife, job growth, cost of living alone, online dating, the number of other singles, and the cool factor. Forbes took a look at urbanized areas this year, where in the past they had been ranking metropolitan statistical areas. Buffalo landed #31. Here's the article.
Buffalo’s Channel 2 news covered the story today. It’s interesting to see certain cities edged off the list like Charlotte, NC due to “lack of large enough central population in its urban center”. Of course we are a long way away from snagging the number one position, but it’s always nice to be able to make such a list. I bet that there are a lot of people out there who are beginning to wonder what is so special about Buffalo and being single. Is it the 4am bar closings, or the large number of coffee shops and restaurants? We have plenty of culture to go around, and we already know that our cost of living distinction carried some weight. A dating reality show was just aired in front of a national audience too… I’m not sure how we rank in the online dating category. As for the cool factor? It’s a matter of opinion I guess. I’ve seen some cars driving around the city with a license plate frames that read, “Buffalo – A Cool Place To Live”. So obviously there are some people who are really digging it.
