Allentown Fixins

This past winter played havoc on a few Allentown buildings. Of course we remember what happened to the cornice of the Karpeles in February... it took a major tumble (see post). Then, in March, the facade of the newly relocated Pawprints by Penny building (at Allen and Wadsworth) experienced a similar fate. Fortunately, both of the buildings have been secured, and just last week work began on restoring the cornice of the Karpeles. Seeing that there is still scaffolding up at the Pawprints building, I was curious as to how the construction work had affected Penny's clientele. From Penney:

"It happed about the week before Saint Patrick's Day. It wasn't even a day of bad weather... the brick and cement just fell. Luckily most of my clients were really good about it. Some people thought that I closed. Now it's going between the preservationists and the City of Buffalo at this point. The scaffolding is up in the meantime to protect people... it's been there since early March. Other than that problem, being in Allentown has been great. The association has been helpful and the neighbors have been wonderful. The daycare has really taken off for the people who work downtown every day... we have up to sixteen dogs a day. That's a lot considering that we never offered doggie daycare when we were on Niagara Street (see original post). People work long hours and their dogs need social stimulation as well as food and water.

Pawprints by Penny is located at 260 Allen (corner of Wadsworth). Phone is 716.883.9360.
