Governor Pataki? Really? Does anybody proofread these things before they get posted?
Thats clever about turning off the light, Buffalo is not really unique when it comes to controversy surrounding developement. All across the country these debates go on and lots of projects are stopped for better or worse.
Isn't the governor sworn to uphold the state constitution? Or is it just when it's convenient? The Senecas want us to uphold their treaties. But, they sure don't uphold our laws.
buffaloboy...it is called sarcasm. Reread the 2nd paragraph of heathersmiles entry.
wacki pataki (NUMBER 9) or patterson is mute. just leave the senecas alone. sounds like they pay their fair share. Anybody against this casion is an anti-development moron that needs to be run out of town. The idiot leading this law suit should keep his real job as "SANTA CLAUS"
"The Senecas sent out a thank you to GOVERNOR PATACKI today, thanking him and the State of New York for corroborating their interpretation of the court ruling that would disallow their operations of the casino on Michigan and Perry in the city."
uh... oh editor?
But Patacki did approve the original gaming agreement, didn't he, basically screwing host cities while enriching New York State.
He should be thanking Patacki.
Wow Pataki is back? You dont watch the news for a few days and you miss out on everything I guess. I heard the bills just signed Kelly and Reed too, Superbowl here we come.
of COURSE the State sees eye to eye with them — the State is desperate for money. That's why we have federal level — to separate the decision-making from the stakeholder!
We the people beg to differ:
Definition of fascism taken from Webster's dictionary:
1. a political philosophy, movement, or regiem (as that of the Fascisti) that exhalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation and forcible suppression of opposition.
A government for, by, and of the corporation is a fascist government -Robert F Kennedy Jr.
Citizens Against Casino Gambling in WNY are American as apple pie and the flag on the Fourth of July. A small group of anti casino individuals would never be allowed in a fasist or communist country. Only in America can people stand up in public or redress wrongs against our country in a court of law. There are three branches of Federal government: The Executive executes the laws. The Legislative enacts laws. The Judicial interprets the laws. All three branches of the Federal government and State government are sworn to uphold the laws of the U.S.A. and the State of New York.
The Seneca Gambling Corporation, the Governor of New York, and Mayor Brown are in violation of their oath to protect the laws of our country. They may not subvert or dictate to the Federal court the laws of the land. Where did the people in WNY who robbed Catholic Churches and Credit Unions spend the thousands they stole from the poor, the needy, and the working people? Answer in the casinos in Buffalo and Niagara Falls.
Those who say get out of Buffalo if you don't like it are anti American and should themselves realize that they are not fit to hold office or be a judge in the United States of America. Maybe in the holy fatwah state of the Buffalo blogger a delusion prevails in their heads that they hold the power to marginalize and trample on the rights of CACGWNY.
I am concerned that every hour that the Casino remains open results in more families losing their life savings. More people are losing their jobs due to the addiction that they have no control over. We have to protect the innocent from this evil monster that leaves a huge path of destroyed lives, crime, and poverty. This isn't a tame animal like the state sanctioned lottery, church bingo, or scratch off tickets; this is a horrible beast that is designed to ruin lives. Save the people who cannot save themselves by banning gambling.
Save them, then we can protect them from the evils of alcohol. Once that is done, we can tackle fast food, speeding cars, open swimming pools, and hand guns. I cannot wait until the day when all citizens are protected from themselves.
Wow, she went back 2 Governors for that reference... Spitzer was number 9....

the number one draw in the city of buffalo is a TEMPORARY casino, 400,000+, out numbering the zoo which was the largest within the city limits. I can't imagine what the permanent casino would draw but i am sure it would be double that number. And the nimby's want to close it??????? the "b" in nimby is for buffalo. I think it is the capitol of nimby's. They couldn't build a boutique hotel on elmwood, they can't get a bridge built, they almost killed a highrise condo on delaware and now this. Will the last one to leave buffalo please turn out the light?...........
those who are inflicting their lifestyle beliefs are facsist and should get out of town. if you dont like gambling, don't go. dont FORCE your view on others who do.
heathersmiles- Go back to Omishtown or wake up and get with the real world!!! Trust me if Joe Smo wants to go and gamble right now he can turn on his computer, got to Joes Tavern and play quick draw, go to Wilson Farms and play scratch offs, or take a ten minute drive to Niagra Falls. So having a Casio Resort downtown is just going to be one of MANY options!
Heather smiles is it possible for us as the Seneca Nation to respond to your gibberish?
I sincerely doubt it, you've already bought the party line so why would that change.
As a Seneca who works at the Niagara Falls Casino and has managed to make a difference in his life supporting his family, and by extension Buffalo (yes I live in the city) and everything that's cool here..if we are pro Casino...or (heaven forfend) pro development we are nailed to the cross for what seems to me racial reasons by the cultural elite.
I've lived here 42 years and seen a lot of corporate welfare going to the slimey like of Golisano, and Ralph "as in puke" Wilson with no complaints.
So suddenly us Senecas are the target...
stupid.
I'm still trying to figure out "Not in my buffalo yard." Is this something the zoo's saying? Because I don't happen to have a buffalo yard.
Wit , the connection is to the yard being in buffalo, and if you don't live in buffalo, then obviously your right, you don't have a buffalo yard. now do you get it,?//wit???? maybe you should change your name. the point about turning off the light is that recently it seems buffalo has been making decisions that are enough to turn anyone away, whether it's the provincial attitude of some off elmwood residence, or the fascist dictates of the anti-casino group, it's enough to add to the number of people already leaving.
Que? oops. I mixed up my Paterson with my Pataki going back and forth from Buffalo Creek to Turning Stone. But as metropolis said, they may as well thank Pataki. And I apologize for the blunder. Spitzer, anyone?

Dear mjs - I think perhaps you're not as coherent as you believe yourself to be, and if you can't see that I was poking fun at an absurdity (which was, perhaps, beneath me, but proved too tempting to resist)... well, perhaps you should expend more effort towards actually taking in what other people are saying rather than spewing your own vitriolic opinions out unchecked into the ether. I'm sorry you're suffering from such frustration and despair in regard to this community... but if you hate it so much, why do you stay?
Also - I do not think either provincial or fascist at all accurately describes the behavior of the people whose behavior you are trying to describe.
Provincial - "having or showing the manners, viewpoints, etc., considered characteristic of unsophisticated inhabitants of a province; rustic; narrow or illiberal; parochial." -- Last time I checked in, your type was blasting the people from the Elmwood Villiage as liberal, elitist, urban hippies?
Fascist - a right-wing, militant, mass-supported, anti-communist political movement that abandons democratic liberties and "pursues redemptive violence." -- Yes, because a small group of people who take appropriate (in a "they won" sense) legal action in order to halt something which was not done legally are really advocating the violent overthrow of the government.
War against the Senecas once again, contrary to Colin's believe..hey Col..."war" was meant as metaphor. like most rocking lefties u missed the point.
Research Kinzua Dam Colin and the talk to me about treaties.
