On visits home, we have stayed there a few times and it has made all the difference in the world! It used to be, on trips home, that we'd stay at the Hyatt - which had fallen, greatly - or the Holiday Inn or, even, the Lennox. And it just felt like another trip - not a vacation. Once we stayed at the Mansion, the whole feel of the journey changed! There is nothing like consummate service, a wonderful room and a great, stately, atmosphere to elevate a trip. I have stayed in some lovely, older hotels - from the St. Francis in San Francisco to the Waldorf in NY, I tend to seek them out, and the Mansion ranks right up there.

Buffalo needs this hotel if only to give the sense that it is a destination - not a stop on the way to the Falls. Thanks to the staff and management of The Hotel for bringing Buffalo into the Big Leagues in terms of luxury.

And to think this was also once, vacant, boarded up and heading to be demolished.. Too bad those darn preservationist Subaru driving hippies people got in the way of progress and held the city back by saving this building...

One less parking lot

It was exactly vacant all those years. Homeless people would break-in by throwing chairs through the windows and sleep inside. My office was just to the north at 430 Delaware for 8 years.

Great building, great renovation, great people, great business and great neighbors.

On a different topic last year, a BRO commenter used the term "rocks the cosmo" - not sure exactly what that means, but it sounds just awesome enough to apply to the Mansion, which is certainly one of the jewels in Buffalo's crown. I had a guided tour through (I think with either an owner or manager) during the original Buffalo Old Home Week in 2006, and came away incredibly impressed.

This award is richly deserved, and certainly won't be the Mansion's last.

The only thing worse than being constantly told you are not good enough for something is to actually start to believe it.

Taking the Metro down Delaware to high school every weekeday I always day dreamed of what could be done with this wonderful building that was boarded up at the time.

It would be wonderful if its sucess and that of Delaware to the south would spur development on the parking lot on the corner across the street. But it is great to have the parcel what it is today, instead of another parking lot.

I have stayed here also. The 18ft ceilings created an "Alice in Wonderland" effect when looking at the doors in propotion to the rest of the room. The shuttle service had great as was all of the employees.
