I'm happy to be at ANY happy hour! Seriously, Marti and her crew are doing a wonderful job in promoting our city. Keep it rockin' it.

I was just writing this post when I logged on and found it already up..! (and I thought everyone was already down at Thursday at the Square...) Thanks, guys!

Joshua - the Happy To Be Here Hours are FREE -- there is never an entry fee. That said, it's a buy-your-own scene (not open bar ;- ) The Town Ballroom has a bar but no kitchen. We're brainstorming a bit right now about food.

We generally have these monthly soirees in restaurants, so food is not an issue. But this is a special Block Party preview/promo. Suggestions re food are welcome. It's been suggested that I whip up a few batches of signature Buffalo Old HOme Week salsa and bring a bunch of chips -- but I'm not sure I have the bandwidth for this solution this week LOL...

FlyGuy - Yeah, the GooGoo Dolls are the perfect act for this event. We've been told that this is not even vaguely possible...but I am well known to be pathologically optimistic, so I've still got my fingers crossed and will continue to hold my breath. Wouldn't that just ROCK?! This would vault the entire event into high gear and seal its success, particularly were it possible to announce it (versus a surprise appearance). Even a cameo appearance by Robby would be wonderful gift. Any ideas on how to make this happen?

Ani DiFranco would be cool as well.

Oh I guess I am being optimistic also. I'm driving back home from central Virginia where I now live with a couple of Virginians and will be giving them the Bufalo tour of the sites that doesnt just come from a brochure. I know the streets and can get around the city and pretty much talk the whole way through it and up through the Tonawandas and Falls as well for that matter. I just think the event would "Rock" as you stated if we were able to land a band like the goo goo dolls considering we will have in town and relocated Buffalonians as well as some out of towners who have never been to the area before. What a first impression a live Goo Goo Dolls concert would bring to them!!! And what a great time!!!! PLus it would give the band a second chance to get a concert in Buffalo with nice weather instead of the drenching they got on the 4th of July a few years back although I must say it made for a great concert on DVD. I would suggest that the best possible way to get a concert like that would be to get one of the band members ears and let them know about the venue and how its for Buffalo, for the home crowd and hopefully for thousands of relocated folks as well.
