Thanks for the write-up! As I said in the email, we can always use more volunteers. We will be doing a park planting and working on adding some foliage to the medians on some of the side streets. There can be few less expensive ways to improve a city than with landscaping: ivys, trees and flowers. Nothing gives the appearance of safety Nothing creates the impression of well maintained, livable, workable, shopable place to visit Nothing makes the street and sidewalk more pedestrial friendly Nothing invites investment into a community Nothing brings traffic to your community to support housing values and businesses in short nothing does more to improve a community and a city for less money than a tree and landscaping.
Matt, what a beautiful thing to do - I am shooting this through my network with your email and last year I was part of a poetic anthology "Trees of Surprise" at Karpeles in honor of all the trees we lost.
If anyone is interested in helping, we'll be meeting at Morgan Park in South Buffalo at 8 AM this Sunday (5/4). Morgan Park is kind of hidden, and is located directly across from the Harding Road and McKinley Parkway intersection (there is no traffic signal though). The park is on McKinely, and a sign will be posted.
I was pleasantly surprised to see this group put two trees in front of my house (corner lot, one on each side). The volunteers did a great job.
One suggestion, I'd drop a flyer with information about the group at any house that receives a tree. I think many recipients would gladly forward a donation to the group. If your not at home while the work is done, you may be under the false impression that the city/town planted the tree.
